This is the second track from Deep Purple's sixth album, Machine Head (1972).

Lineup (Mk II) - Ritchie Blackmore: guitar, Ian Gillan: vocals and harmonica, Roger Glover: bass, John Lord: keyboards, and Ian Paice: drums/percussion

Lyrics:
Peeping round the door I got a big surprise
Couldn't see a thing but open skies
They've taken her away, where is she now

Wish that she was here, wish she'd hold my hand Maybe she would laugh, maybe understand
Why was I so cruel, where is she now

Acting like a fool I had to make her cry
Maybe I'm a Leo but I ain't a lion
I'm hurting oh so bad, I want her now

I remember when my father bought me this album in 1972 when he was a medical student. Somehow I pictured him asking the record store employee what would be a great album to buy for his teenage son and the employee suggested this album. Every single song on this album is excellent. My dad passed away in 2013 and this was such a memorable moment for me that made me bond with my dad so well. This Sunday is Father's day and I will miss him greatly on that day because he was the best dad a son could ever have. Happy Father's day Dr Baksh. I know that you are looking down on me from heaven and smiling as I rock out on deep purple 💜 machine head.

These guys deserve knighthoods for writing this sort of stuff
Listening to this after my teens in the 70’s my hair still stands up
What a band this is

How good is Ian Paice in this?! But then again none of them are slouches right? Best line up in rock history IMHO

Played this to my 16 year old Son that hadn't heard it before, huge respect points to him for it having the same effect on him that it had on me . 🇦🇺🥃🥃

Sure, he's a leo: his hair, his posture, his craziness and temper say everything. The power of the sun, just inside a person.

Bought the LP when it first came out . To me, the most underrated song on it.

What blows me away most is how restrained these guys are on this tune. All of them could show-boat, but none of them do. man, what Ian Paice does with those drums!

I love this song. Paice plays with the accents twisting the regular 4/4 song ❤

I was ten
Listened to it through my older brothers’
Bedroom door cause dey be up in there with friends getting stoned cold drunk and sober again
(what a novelty)
They’d finally have to answer
a nature call and my head would fall from the door to the floor and crack up laughing and drag me in for the remainder of the knock down drag out rock N roll party and they’d make me feel like a big man 💜❤️‼️
Rest In Peace Joe, and Pete jr.
Love you.
Hold a place for me.
I’ll out rock your asses!
Some fine day 🫡

I just love that gritty groove Roger Glover gets from the bass.

First album I bought, with my own allowance money, when I was eight years old. Still have it, money well spent!⚡️
