8 Gig speeds are like buying a whole grocery store for dinner 🤣Most server side hosts can't even supply files/downloads at speeds that fast so you would be capped anyways to an extent. For 4K streaming, 50 MB/s is plenty. A standard 1 Gig connection symmetrical is perfect for practically anyone.

Just so that everyone understands, buying 8gig service from an ISP (Optimum) does not mean you will be able to maximize it out of the gate. You will need equipment to be able to really see the benefit (Router, Switch, Cat 6a ethernet cables minimum, Wifi 7 minimum, Networking cards in the receiving computers that can handle 10Gps, Etc.). This is not going to be plug and play nor is it going to increase network reliability.

As someone with access to 5GB 500MB up and down is plenty for 99% of people. The only time I run into the speed cap is on big downloads or uploads but those are rare and not a priority enough that the speed with 500mbps isn’t enough.

I'm living in Singapore and I gotta say the internet speeds we're getting is probably one of the highest in Asia and we have telcos offering 10gbps fibre optic internet. Honestly even at 1gbps is probably alittle overkill for majority of the population in singapore (talking about legit avg consumers) I don't see the REAL need for 8gbps or even 10gbps unless you're in a commercial level with running huge amount of servers

We barely scratch 30% usage on our busiest days. Parading such over-the-top speeds for home use is not just misleading, it's downright irresponsible. As an average consumer on optimum fiber 300mbps with multiple tvs, pcs, consoles and wireless devices we have zero issues. Spending more than my current monthly payment wouldn’t be beneficial at this time. Cool to see it moving forward though.
