In the winter months of Minnesota, if I’m more than 30 minutes late, I get into the “I don’t care” mode and basically just trying to be safe.

One thing we all have in common, traffic. No matter what agency you work for or riding, there will always be traffic. Unless you're in one of those private ones where you're in a small town and your bus will be late.

Our Xcelsior buses come with just 3 straps to hook to the wheelchair. The others we have comes with 4 straps.

Disruptive passengers, they train us to keep the bus moving. When you keep the bus moving. The problem most times solves itself. Never get involved with a disruptive passenger.

It'll be 2045 and we'll still be using these heavily outdated fareboxes.

People should be glad the bus showed up late then not showing up at all during driver shortages bus drivers are dealing with lots of behind the scenes people don’t think about

I was a bus driver at Disney in FL. One time, I got 4 wheelchairs for 4 different stops at Saratoga Springs. That took a lot of time.

A few year back on the M101 I had 8 wheelchairs and 4 walkers in one trip.

You forgot one: How about the pencil pushers that are unfamiliar with the route and time of day and type up and unrealistic schedule and then expect drivers to unsafely travel to try and make up that time. Haha

Also if a bus breaks down, the following bus has to pick up for that bus plus their usual amount of passengers. Or if something happens to the bus before it even leaves the garage. I've been through those situations before and it was a struggle to get back on schedule.

Very informative for the general public. I'm a bus driver in Queensland Australia.

Once I was running 30 minutes late due to traffic and my route serving malls during rush hour.

A guy got on my bus without looking at the destination sign, then as soon as I turned down a different street, he said, "Oh, sh--!" And pulled the chord.

While I was stopping the bus, he stood next to me and repeatedly swore under his breath.

When I opened the door, he shouted, "This is _your_ fault! You're _late!_ "
Everyone laughed.

I liked that you used a San Francisco picture.

Back in the mid-1980's the busses in Santa Clara County had the same traffic signal "preemption" strobe lights our ambulances had to turn a traffic light green. Was kind of cool coming up from Los Gatos to San Jose, just slip in behind a bus during peak traffic and hit all the green lights. Maybe it was "express" busses that did not stop every 2 blocks ??? Be safe, Kewan.

You’re not wrong. Every transit company will face everything you explained in the video. But also, it could be depending if anyone wants to work on that specific day. The company I use, I’ll have to wait longer on Saturdays & Sundays & that’s because the company is unable to hire replacement workers on those days for some reason, or it could be a lot of people taking off, but still. I do find it quite ridiculous that on those days I have to wait longer & not going out anywhere during those days will solve anything.

Where I live we have done away with fare box and use contactless payment, probably less than 10% use cash. That doesn't help as some people don't know the fare. Also people not have enough fare loaded on their card can slow things down. And the small minority of drivers who won't move until people who are standing move all the way to the back of the bus.

People have a Misconception of a bus driver they think it’s easy because you sit down all day Driving around the giant loop with all this obstacles.they don’t know that the bus will make them cry A lot of people think it’s so easy

I call bs my aunt, a bus driver. Why do you think the driver time is more than double the scheduled time to account for it. she said the only reason they are late is for terrible time management

My experience is that the number one reason I am late (other than traffic, of course) is a missing leader. If a run is missed and there’s fewer buses on the line than intended, I'm picking up and dropping off at more stops, and spending longer boarding and alighting passengers. As the trip goes on, I get further behind and the problem compounds. And for my follower, who has to roll slower or end up hot, this is a problem too. They could end up right behind me, now there's a bunch and a gap, which might propagate along the line.

I live in Central Ohio and we have COTA (Central Ohio Transit Authority). Most recently in 2018, they launched a new route called "CMAX" and what this is is that it is a bus rapid transit line. It also has traffic priority so that the bus can stay on time. I think more transit agencies should go with bus rapid transit.

Passengers with walking assistance (cane, walkers etc) who have priority seating in the front of the bus want to sit ALL THE WAY IN THE BACK, up the steps. And want to use the front door to leave the bus. Plus they want the bus kneeled.
Slow moving passenger.

If you are using a wheelchair/powerchair of any kind make sure that the hooks are easy to connect to your chair, whether you get the small rope attachments or the chair has hooks, make sure that your bags don't hang out so far that we can't access the hooks without crawling on the floor.

Outside of that I don't think most wheelchair passengers take much time if I'm in a front load low floor ramp and not a rear lift bus.

In Columbus, Ohio the driver shortage for city bus here it's crazy . They cut back on frequency on buses due to shortage. They are offering $2000 sign on bonus to attract new drivers . Nobody wants to drive I guess.
