SpaceX rescue capsule docks at the International Space Station

A SpaceX crew is on a rescue mission to bring back two stranded astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams, from the International Space Station. Both astronauts were supposed to be there for eight days, but were stranded when their capsule suffered helium leaks and thruster issues. Wilmore and Williams will hitch a ride back to Earth with the SpaceX rescue team, scheduled for February 2025.

Typically one way trips are less expensive than round trips. Perhaps Boeing has something here. Save taxpayer dollars by doing one way astronaut trips to the space station using a stripped down capsule not meant for return- no heat shield and no extra helium needed for return maneuvers. The Boeing folks can later hitch a ride upon the return of a subsequent SpaceX unmanned resupply mission.
