I'm also a software engineer and just try to run time stretching on a 3min+ beat. It takes forever. There's no way they are doing stem seperation on that mid-tier SOC chip unless you want to wait half an hour.

Two options: they severely cap it (only one stem, and max like 15-30s) OR it uploads to a web server then redownloads.

I am a dinosaur of electronics but I still understand theory. This was my thought exactly

Yes, I agree - and in this day and age there really is no good excuse for having the ram that can not be upgraded, or having such a low capacity. 8-16 gigs across the baord would have given so much flexibility. It all came down to cost. But most people investing in these high end tools would have happily paid and extra 200 for an expansion port or bigger ram from the get go.

It will happen. Their website still says it's coming as of now. They can use wifi or the ethernet port to upload the sample. The separation can be done through the network before handing it back off in separate stems. It would require an internet connection of course but still no turning on ur computer. If not that it will probably be a stripped down stems experience vs the computer program.

You are spot on about it, the model seems to take 1 gig of RAM so if they don't manage to get the model more compressed or something like that. What I expect from them is that they will create some Stem creation mode that will require just some basic functionality for creating stems so full OS runtime does not need to be in memory and allow you to create stems like that in standalone. You can then load "normal" mode and use the stems as normal wav samples.

I own the live mk 1 and I just bought an MPC X, the first one with 2gb of ram. I'm really hoping it's not only released on the X SE with 4gb! I bought the plug-in online when they released it under the knowledge that it would be out in standalone soon, and able to be used on the current hardware that I own!

Thanks for the vid. It would be cool to hear your thoughts now that MPC standalone stems has been released. Due to the hardware limitations that already exist. I guess we can only expect so much.

Good ideas, i hope its not the case. They should just announce that if that is the case, instead of having customers wait and speculate. I'm currently using FL Studio stems. I see know point in purchasing the MPC controller mode stems.

They would need a new Mpc with more power and ram .
It’s not a problem tho imo.
Spend a day get getting stems and then unplug for the pc and work standalone .

Just glad it works in the software on my 2017 MacBook, Apple want you to buy a silicon chip to make it work in the new Logic 11 update. I bet there's not much difference.

HOw can they get a quad core processor with only 2gb of ram to do stems.. Thats whats being asked of all previous MPC's, only the new upgraded 4gb MPC X and Keys stand a chance.

A lot of the AI Stemming Apps actually have an option to run on GPU which is much faster. This is also why I don't think it will be coming to standalone until the release a new model, probably when Mpc3.0 gets released. I would assume a cpu and ram upgrade are needed for it to work the way it does on software. Also my prediction is some sort of new MpcX/SE style replacement when 3.0 comes out. I could be wrong but I feel this is a marketing tactic to get people to upgrade since we have been on 2gb for awhile now and only releasing one unit with 4gb and another temporarily with 4gb makes me thinks an upgrade will happen. Even making the people who bought 4gb units want the newer units for there slightly upgraded CPU.
For me I don't care overly. There are other AI Stem Apps that do way better of a job and if I'm gonna use the computer for a second to rip stems, I mine as well just use a different app, or a free one, then toss the files on a thumbdrive/sdcard. There is no point on me using the Mpc software. I haven't used it in years and most like will not in the future. I hope akai starts focusing on the midi, sampling, ins, outs quality, and things like that in the future, but knowing them, they will just release more hardware and more plugins. All good though.

3:49 wonder why they put only 2gb ram in there ? seems a bit weak in todays world.

The standalone is not powerful enough! They will probably release a new more powerful model that can do it.

I bought it with a 10% discount. It isn't ready yet. It sounds ugly for now. Akai's videos gave me a false impression about the aesthetic of the final result.

its aggrivating that people spend any time at all thinking about this. at this point just make a machine that makes the beat for you. be a producer and sample it.... god forbid, right? anybody who was already using stems was mad when they started adding it to machines and making it right there for everyone. its too powerful of technology to be taken for granted. all context of being a producer is gone... it used to seem like magic.

Just use the stems from Koala sampler on your phone and then sample it into the MPC. Koala sampler costs only 5 bucks.
