World's Tallest Building, JEDDAH TOWER -- One Kilometer High

Показать описание
Jon discusses Saudi Arabia's newest planned skyscraper - the "Kingdom Tower" (later renamed the "Jeddah Tower") which when finished will sit 5,280* feet high.

*UPDATE: The "Kingdom Tower" was initially planned to 1 mile high (as was the case when this video was recorded); however, the geology of the area proved unsuitable for a tower of that height - with the new height of 3,304 feet (1,007 meters) as the new goal. Construction began in 2013, and is slated to finished sometime in 2020.

I am a muslim, and even for me this is WAY TOO MUCH, this is not what is taught in Islam. Our ideology teaches us modesty.

Wow, and I thought the 60 seconds in the Sears tower was bad enough, but twelve minutes? wow, just wow.

Your so dramatic. Look, I live in a city that is at 1, 6 mile in altitude. I can breath normal here. I cannot see the curvature of the Earth neither. Next time find more. The building will be 1.0 Km tall. Not 1 mile, it would be 1.6 km, that nearly impossible.

Of course, the building was planned to be 1, 6 km at the begging but later was reduced to 1.0 km
Anyway there will be a tower in South America that has will have the same high as the Kingdom Tower was planned to be. I think it will be a monument to the Equator Line that will be built in Ecuador if im not wrong.

How would you be able to breathe up there??
Would the rooms already be oxygenated??

9 Years Later:

They actually started building this, but it's been on hold for 2 years.

It's basically a giant concrete base right now.

John, ur first pe$&s comment on HH prince Al Waleed was silly, Remember they are kids watching utube consider some more self-aware techniques in ur next videos. Regarding the o2 deficiency at top floors its not an issue since there is somethin called tahwya dakhlya indoor vent or ac what ever. Its amazing coz will be able to see African continent from Asia by standing at the tower's observatory isn't? thx 4 wishing us a good luck anyway. Salam n peace from KSA.

@H0g3s falling from the top of that isn't the same as doing it from something even the hight of the Empire State Building. You'd probably pick up so much speed that even if you're not torn apart, when the rope stops, can you say "OW" but good point. I didn't think of that.

12 minutes in the elevator...until people want to get on/off, which makes the elevator stop every couple floors...more like 20 minutes in total.

@Qermaq Thank you. I'm gonna look that up now. I had NO idea.

Oh now I feel dumb. But I learned something new. Thanks! (:

Imagine bungee jumping off of this bad boy.

The wind force/pressure/etc would tear you apart on the way down, though.

People will keep trying to build higher and higher

you have to be at least 55, 000 feet in altitude before you can see the curvature of the earth
