UPDATE: Please see the notes below provided by Anthem. During my review, I checked for updates within the Anthem app and it said the firmware is up to date. I am working with Anthem on the two step process to get the MCU version updated to the latest version.

1.The HDMI Audio dropout with Kaleidescape products was a known issue caused by the way the Kaleidescape player would send EDID information to the MRX/AVM. We worked to patch the problem on our end via firmware. This issue was resolved last year and requires that the AVM/MRX MCU version be updated. Can you please tell us the Release Version and MCU Version that shows on the “Information” Page in the web user interface? We saw the response where a follower mentioned that it was resolved with a FW update and you replied you were on the latest release version, network module release version (2.3.213). That said, it is possible that the unit's MCU version is still out of date based on your reported experience. The current MCU version is 00.80 for 4K models and HD.80 for 8K models. This has created confusion in the past, as the MCU update is a 2 step process if "Automatic Updates" has not been enabled in the unit. Feedback on streamlining the update process has been documented and acknowledged for future product releases, and is currently implemented on the new MRX SLM.

2. In regards to the relative volume “0 dB” discussion mentioned in your video, that will vary based on each calibration. ARC Genesis measures the sensitivity of the speaker system compared to the room and sets the system-wide target level accordingly. The level adjustment will vary based on speaker sensitivity, primary listening position (ARC sets channel levels based off the first position measured), room size, and other influencing factors. While ARC Genesis always tries to achieve a 75dB target level, this can vary based on the user's specific installation and calibration. This is why the volume level on the receiver is treated as more of a listener's preference, rather than an absolute value.

I’ve had my avm70 for 3 years now. Awesome sounds and no problems here.

Great review! Would love to see a room correction comparison with measurements of ARC vs. Audyssey and Dirac too if you have something on hand.

Still in love with my Anthem MRX310. Going on more than 10 years now. Sadly I did have to have it recapped, but it was totally worth it.

Wonderful review! I have owned the AVM 70 for about 4 years now (not the 8k) and the channel separation is incredible. I will never go back to a receiver again. Thanks to your comparison between AVR and processor video I took the risk. I am glad I did. Love the sound I have now.

I bought and then returned the AVM 70 due to too many technical problems. I loved the audio quality and the app/configuration options were amazing but they were overshadowed by other issues. I replaced it with the Marantz AV10 which for me was the right decision.

As soon as i purchase enough seperate amps, then I'll definitely switch to anthem. I just want the processor to process and amps to amp. 😅 im looking for full structural damage over here. No half stepping. 😂

Excellent review. Money is tight. I have an AVM-50 now. I want to have the ability to setup a Dolby Atmos system 7.1, and up mix music to DTS and Atmos. I was thinking of a used AVM-60. Do you see any reason to get a 70? I don't care about better DACS just want the basics and to get an updated preamp. I don't pass video and I use a WiiM to stream high def music from Tidal. I heard that playfi isn't too good and I think the AVM-70 gives you more choices in that respect. I'm looking to spend about 1500.00 used. Thanks!!

Anthem really needs to create a feature like Denon's Dynamic EQ to help with bass

Great review Youthman. I’m still working to build up to the Onkyo RZ50 AVR which was recently replaced by the RZ70 lol.

Stellar product, i have had it for 2yrs bought as future proofing for my 5.2 system which has now grown to a 7.2.4 system. Not looking to do anything except maybe make upgrade to 7.2.6 in a year .
