How does a man drown in the middle of an event recorded from so many angles and surrounded by hundreds of CrossFit employees and paid temporary personnel?!?

Thank you for covering this... we need more transparency in many things in life.

Strongest man on Earth giving us the best overview of a lot of issues going on these days

Mitch, truly appreciate you covering this. Many of the CrossFit YouTubers have been MIA in all this, as they are afraid to post negatively (negative impact on their own channel as well).

Finally someone specifically mentions that the PFAA have asked for Dave Castro's removal from the Sport Team only and not CrossFit entirely. The response from Sevan has been hysterical and completely disrespectful to the athletes who were competing on the day. He wasn't the one who swam in the water where Lazar went down. We don't know what the mental effects will be on them thinking they could've done something if they had seen him, feeling guilt when there shouldn't be.

Castro is supremely arrogant. He horrendously marketed the sport forever. And he actively tried to undermine the GOAT Mat Fraser. He certainly disrespected him. They brought Castro back because his replacement was even worse.

You're a good voice for those that can't say these things. Keep up the great work Moose.

Thank you, kind sir, for using your reach and platform for this topic. Brent and Pat are the best thing to ever happen to Crossfit. Fierce and able competitors for a decade, always speaking the truth, very friendly and funny and true class acts.

Castro was removed from his position several years ago, that was the right decision at the time and it should have remained that way, he should have never been let back into CF. Castro always has been and remains a disaster in every way, he is a huge detriment to the sport. Unfortunately, it appears that the death of an athlete is what it is going to take for the change to happen.

I've always found it odd that CrossFit is the brand and the sport. I think it muddies the waters between the athletic pursuit of competitors and shameless brand promotion, and really hinders an athlete's ability to advocate for themselves (which you touched on in the video). As an example, if Strongman was some sort of brand name, when Hafthor had beef with WSM, he's easily blackballed. But, we still get to see him compete in Arnold's, SMOE and the Rogue Invitational, which is good for the sport and as a fan I'm sure happy about it. I think until they find a way to separate the sport from the brand, they are going to battle issues with athletes being treated poorly (like a business where they don't pay their employees).

Unfortunately, the CrossFit community is also at fault for forcing CFHQ to bring back Castro. Castro's unchecked ego unfortunately cost a man his life and the community is responsible for feeding said ego. Bozeman was starting to track CrossFit in the right direction again but then they brought Dave back and now we are here.

I enjoy doing Crossfit and watching the Crossfit games, but never liked Dave Castro. His judgment isn’t great and he is a go hard, 110%, no chill, fuck safety kind of guy. It was already obvious back when Rich Fronig was having his run as champion. Dave’s response to high heat or other dangerous conditions always seemed to be, make the event harder.

crossfit as a competitive sport totally confuses me. I think the promoters and HQ hide within the chaos and confusion.

I think legal actions from Lazar's family may be the biggest motivation for change in this matter. It is clear that while the death was not intentional it was negligence at best, and therefore wrongful death. I would expect there to be some change and more transparency once lawsuits are settled.

Castro should be fired and be held responsible for criminal negligence as well as sued in civil court. His antics have destroyed not only the family but the community. Matt Fraser almost died a couple years ago during the swimming event and yet Castro still continues to program? What is wrong with this picture? A navy seal should know that you don't do swimming after a running event especially in a lake that was too hot to be swimming in. Professional swimmers said the lake was too hot to swim in. If you cramp while running, you stop running, but if you cramp while swimming it can be game over. Castro has no respect for life and needs to be held accountable in the courts and financially.

I'll repost my comment from the original video about the drowning, might get some clarity here.

One thing that wasn't really the deciding factor here, but which the video made me think of anyway: Why is it that organisers keep putting on long-distance endurance events (not just CrossFit) in the throes of hottest summer, sometimes in the F triple digits? Wouldn't the athletes' well-being be better served if races were scheduled for spring and autumn, at 15-20C / 60-70F? Or in milder climates. Or is the added health risk seen as another "challenge" to overcome?

Thank you Mitch for your take on this.

I love how literally everyone's view right now is, "I know better, I could do better and I'm always right!"

Let's no more dead athletes please.

Thanks.

Great job using your platform and independence to shine light on the situation. Athletes are not safe and shouldn't compete until they see changes.
