Several private media and online outlets in Guinea have staged a news blackout in protest against a crackdown imposed by the ruling military.
That comes as tensions have risen between the army and the opposition in recent weeks.
The military overthrew President Alpha Conde in 2021 and has promised a transition to civilian rule by the end of 2024, but the long wait has frustrated civil society groups.

Al Jazeera’s Raheela Mahomed reports.

The European Parliament on Thursday harshly criticized Morocco's Alaoui Makhzen regime over the reality of press freedom in the kingdom, calling for the temporary release of detained journalists. He also demanded in a non-binding text "an end to harassment against all journalists in the country." Reporters Without Borders expressed satisfaction with the European Parliament's recommendation "after 25 years of complicity (...) and ignore any remarks about infringement on freedom of expression in Morocco."
