Fightstick REVIEW: Hori Fighting Stick Alpha PS5

Just how "alpha" is the Hori Fighting Stick α? In this vid, I review the Hori Fighting Stick Alpha arcade stick for the PlayStation 5. It has a few drawbacks as well as some pretty cool features. Watch to see the final score and let me know if you agree with my assessment.

Unfortunately I feel like 200 USD will be on the lower end for PS5 sticks. Just look at how much the new Nacon Daija costs. Get your Obsidians/Pearls now before it's too late!

I do like that you give 2 reviews for this one that makes more sense to newcomers and one that makes sense to people who have used multiple sticks for years and might have different opinions about what would constitute a good stick score

Fun fact: the lever harness has six wires--power is available if anyone has a silent Hayabusa lever they'd like to install... or if Hori ever makes an individual silent Hayabusa available for purchase 😅.

I have gotten this stick around my birthday and even got to customize it based on one of my favorite divisions from Hypnosis Mic, and plus with the Functions options, I was able to assign different buttons for me to use on games such as Blazblue and even for the Pop’n Music titles. The only issue I had was how you sound on the mic through the headphone jack since it will make your voice a bit low and have some sort crackling sound going on whenever you use it on, but it was still pretty good to use nonetheless. This was a brilliant review, I’m glad you got to try this out and I hope you keep on helping people out on Fightstick customizing and fighting games in general, have a good one

This was a lovely video. I have been enjoying your content all day, and it really does not warrant this stupid short essay I wrote, but you touched on a personal axe I feel the need to grind. Between the Mayflash elites, the Victrix, the Qanba sticks, the Madcatz return, and the dragonslay/ego clones, there are a plethora of Sanwa Vewlix options, which are the default on account of the original TE. That’s fine. What’s disappointing is that how limited non-Sanwa retail stick options are. Outside of Hori, you can import an IST or an Etokki for a lot of shipping, or you can get the Qanba mechanical switch stick. There is only 1 Sanwa Noir option you can buy without importing. There is little to no diversity within the retail stick market. Hori has been doing great work by offering an alternative with Hayabusa Noir sticks. If Hayabusa parts are “questionable parts” then literally any retail stick parts that aren’t Sanwa parts are questionable parts. I know you added the caveat that a new player might not mind, but the way it’s presented in this video is as if only someone who hadn’t tried Sanwas would enjoy Hayas, and that’s just not true. Hayas, Seimitsus, and Sanwas are all things a new player ought to try and are in a clear league above parts like Zippys, Mayflashes, or Suzo Happs(please just buy iLs), which are real budget questionable parts that only a new player would enjoy.
TLDR: Seimitsus are the best you Sanwa sheep, I’m going to go play Ikaruga. 😈

Wow dude, you really did a number on this one! You thought about everything. I really liked the fact that the case comes with a lot of quality of life features. The only QoL feature that I did not see and I really like is the removable (quick release) joystick. That makes it really easy to get it in a bag. Now that I think about it, my first joystick was I think one of the first really cheap hori fightsticks (before the f100?) and it had membrane buttons. below the buttons there was a pcb! The joystick itself had the exact same sound as this one, and it had a square gate too. The instant I heard the joystick switches, that old thing came to mind. It took a nice beating for a couple years and it still performed okay! For me the thing to consider is the options in the market for the price tag. Very nice review dude. P.S. *whispers* open up a referal store for the reviewed items!

i find the noir layout less ergonomic since i have to bend my wrist inwards to fit my fingers over the buttons. i'm not sure why there isn't a layout that has more of a slant that matches where your fingers would naturally rest. the closest mainstream one is the vewlix but just simply rotating the noir layout a tad to the left would be best.

I have a Madcatz TE S+. Does anyone know if it's worth getting this Hori Alpha and replacing my current stick? I only really want it so I have the freedom of using it for PC, PS4 and 5.

Buttons are very sensitive indeed (little bit too much tbh). Where did you find the Hori device manager ? I have not been able to find it so far (the url provided on my box doesn't lead me anywhere

Being a Hayabusa fan, being able to get the parts I want in a solid unit such as this was simply win/win - well worth the money.

Wonder if a LS-40 stick and Samducksa buttons will fit this.🤔

Can you fit a Korean lever in it? I typically use a crown 309mj

Had the opportunity to pick this up for less than 200 when this came out. Was well worth it, it is currently my only joystick controller right now when I feel like playing on one. Joystick and button mods aside, the only criticisms I really have are the way the cable wraps, never seems to want to stay tightly wound so there's a bit that always sticks out that the clamp shell gets stuck on when closing so I have to still tuck it in to fully close. I don't mind the plastic case considering the price point, though I feel the shape of it is a bit boxy, does make me want to bring my legs closer to balance it better. Otherwise, awesome stick.

Bought one of these in January 2023 and it worked well until this month (November 2023)
It starting turning on by itself if left plugged in and now while playing its starting to disconnect and reconnect randomly

Picked 1 up Hayabusa buttons were too sensitive (my first stick) swapped out the stick for a Jlf sanswa from amazon. Also swapped buttons to sanswa
