Overall Germany reached 8 World Cup Finals (and additional 5 semi finals), Italy 5 (and additional 1 semi final), France 3 (and additional 3 semi finals), the Netherlands 3 (and additional 2 semi finals) Spain 1 (and additional 1 semi final), England 1 (and additional 2 semi finals). Germany also has the highest number of Euro finals (6). Just regarding the success there is no doubt which country is the football power house of Europe.

I never understand why the FA of England did not want participate in the first 3 world cups. Rumors said that they were offended by the french federation, because they organized with other countries the world cup, saying that they were too strong and did not need to prove it. By doing that, they lost in competivity as other countries improved. When they decided to participate in 1950 in Brazil, they lost to the United States their very first game in world cup history.
