One of the key issues with the Internet of Things, IoT is that of power consumption. As many sensors are remote and battery powered, it is crucial to reduce their power consumption so that batteries do not need charging or replacing too frequently.
To address this issue a company called nanopower semiconductor has introduced a microcontroller concept and integrated circuits to enable considerably reduced power consumption, a key enabler for the Internet of Things.
By putting the microcontroller to sleep when it is not needed as well as monitoring the sensors only when readings fall outside a set range the microcontroller power consumption can be considerably reduced. Also the sensor power consumption can be reduced.
