BOAT TOUR AROUND ORTIGIA ISLAND, SICILY

2019 September 11, Wed, Day#12 -- After visiting the morning market, we went for the 1-hour boat tour around the Syracusan island of Ortigia to explore its town and sea caves. Today, the sun was up and shinning. Scattered patches of clouds appeared happy and fluffy in the air like cotton-candies. The air was crisp and cool to the skin. And, the Mediterranean climate was just irresistible for a boat ride. The island is small with an extension of about 1 km. In an hour of fun ride, we covered the entire island, beginning from Porta Marina to the Castello Maniace (which is the extreme point of the island). The tour allowed us to see/admire the unique rock formations in and around the caves. The most famous of all the calcareous caves is the heart-shaped "Cave of Love". However, the best part of this fun activity was immersing in that "floating" moment while watching the beautiful scenery of Ortigia in clear blue water and interesting geological "rocky" conformation. The experience can be taken to another level if boat ride was done during sunrise and/or sunset. Next stop - exploring the old town of Ortigia by foot
