Here is my first OpenFOAM video tutorial of the DynamicMesh series.

An advanced use of BlockMesh is shown in order to build a 2D mesh around a NACA0012. This puts the base for the next videos, where I will explain different dynamicMesh possibilities for simulating an oscillating aerofoil.

Constructive comments and suggestions are welcomed.

Hi,

I am trying to use your case in OpenFOAM 10 but some errors appearch due to the Macro Expansion when defining the cylinder. Have you ever tried to run in OpenFOAM v10?

I run the blockMesh, and it shows

--> FOAM FATAL IO ERROR: Illegal dictionary entry or environment variable name ":aerofoil.xUpper" Valid dictionary entries are 1(type)

After google-ing, it seems something to do with syntax between old version OF, to the latest.
FYI, currently I use OF9.

Kindly advise. Please.

Thanks for your great Explanation.
I have tried to set up the mesh with my own airfoil. The problem that I have got that I cannot choose a type empty for front and back as my airfoil is not symmetrical. I must choose a type wall.
Due to this i get bad results.
Do you know the reason i cannot choose type empty ?

Hello, Thank you for your video! I would like to do the same but for a NACA0018. Where can i find the NACA0012.obj file but for the NACA0018? I tried to create it with solidworks but the code do no recognize the shaoe of the airfoil and so the mesh is not good. Thank you
