The Story of Blasphemous II

Blasphemous II carries all the hallmarks that have been associated with the series since its inception: fantastic bloody combat; intense boss fights; and a setting inspired by Catholicism in Spain that is unlike any other in gaming. Just like its predecessor, the story of Blasphemous II is steeped in deep lore which is revealed to players through character interactions, the environments they explore, and Lore Pages that accompany every item in the game. While this method of storytelling can be captivating, it can also be frustrating as it's easy to miss a key piece of narrative that's needed to understand everything in the story. To help resolve that issue, this video puts all of the lore relevant for the main story in order so the story can be seen from its beginning to its end. Hope you enjoy!

Huge thanks to @Team17Ltd, the sponsor of this video, who provided me an early copy of the game so I could get this made!

I love how the penitent one stabs that one dude through the chest with Crisante’s sword, like an act of respect for his fallen ally

The Incarnate having an Existential crisis less than an hour into existence is hilarious.

Also the way they handled the lore by taking in biblical stories and writing a take on it that is both obviously based on it yet wholy original is great

As a person who Spanish is his main language, you are the only content creator that that I’ve found that has reviewed Blasphemous with perfect pronunciation for Spanish words. Thank you 🔥

The Penitent One, during the period of silence, the almost birth of the avatar of the Miracle, then the return of the miracle, the suffering of the people at the hand of it, the forming of various religious orders, the appearance of a giant heart, the forming of powerful knights, the creation of mighty guardians to protect the growing new avatar of the Miracle and the death of Crisanta: "I sleep."
The Penitent One after Deogracias ghost told him that inside the heart there is probably a baby that he is allowed to beat up: *REAL SHIT!*

I am so sorry about my pronunciation of the Spanish words in this. I’m an English speaking American that has had little exposure to the language. I did my best, but I'm sure the pronunciation isn't great. I hope it doesn't detract from your enjoyment of the video too much!

For returning viewers of the channel, I know I said I was going to do the Characters of Darkest Dungeon before this video, but when this opportunity came up, I couldn’t say no. Now that this is done, I’ll return to working on the video for the Characters of Darkest Dungeon. I would expect it to come out some time in September.

Thank you for watching, everyone! Hope you enjoyed!

Personally to me, The Miracle is an unfathomable concept
Whether or not it can disappear, it matters not, for one day it'll come back again

Its nice that our silent penitant boi got his overdue rest, but after all this time, Crisanta still hasn't recieved her well deserved rest😭

Everything about Afilaor is unsettling and leaves a lot of questions. For one he resides in the lowest part of the map directly opposite to the final area of the game. The hundreds if not thousands of weapons he stashed also raises the question of if he’s killed that many others to attain his collection, if you look closely at the weapons he throws at you during the fight you’ll also notice that they’re the weapons of enemies across both games. Like the spears of the floating cardinals in Mother of Mothers, the swords of the shielded women in B1, the pikes of the caged angels, and even the daggers of the early enemies from the holy line. It’s also worth mentioning that there are no other enemies in the route leading to Afilaor, and even the enemies in Mother of Mothers aren’t found near the entrance to his pit, implying they’re actively avoiding it. It seems like he’s been killing all across Custodia and stealing their weapons while taking refuge beneath the Church. But it doesn’t answer the question of what his connection to the Miracle or Arch-confraternity is, and why the Witness appears only after his defeat. Creepy

Also fun fact Sinodo is made up of the Painted Cardinals from the Basilica which is why the faces there are absent

In discussing the game with various people (thanks everyone that's talked with me), I've come to realize that my definition of the Miracle is a little incorrect, so I thought I'd clarify:

When I say "the Miracle" I'm using it the same way that Humanity uses in the game: as a name for the entity that is causing the blessings/punishments in them (the High Wills in the first game - unknown in the second game), but *not* the force or power that that entity uses to cause those blessings/punishments. So, in my mind, the High Wills weren’t *using* the Miracle, the High Wills *were* the Miracle. This was driven by various lore bits from the first game (namely, Deogracias describing the Miracle in the intro, his dialogue at the Knot of the Three Words establishing its first appearance, and the lore page of the Apodictic Heart of Mea Culpa where it’s stated the Miracle is the High Wills). When the High Wills were destroyed, in my mind, the Miracle was also effectively destroyed since that was the name Humanity used for the High Wills. I did believe that whatever power/force that the High Wills used still existed in the Land of Eternal Processions, I just never put together that force/power was also called the Miracle, but now I know!

To add to that, my summary of the story of the second game also follows Humanity’s point of view. Since Humanity can’t see into the Dream, they can’t know if something else took control of the power the High Wills used (aka the Miracle) or if the power itself is an entity and is trying to manifest itself into the world (as some people theorize). They would just understand the blessings/punishments as the Miracle returning since that's the only understanding they have for the phenomena and can't see into the Dream to see what’s actually happening. My personal belief is that some other entity in the Land of the Eternal Processions is using some kind of power (also known as "the Miracle") to try and make a baby (which Humanity sees as the return of the Miracle) instead of the Miracle trying to manifest itself, but I suppose time will tell which is correct!

TL;DR - My definition refers to the *entity* causing the blessings/punishments from Humanity’s point of view, not the *power/force* the High Wills refer to

Hope that clears up some confusion! Thanks again to everyone that helped clear that up! I learned something new and it’s always a good day when you learn something new! And now that I know, I'll be sure to be better in the future!
Thanks for watching!

So even without the High Wills controlling it, the Miracle ultimately is a dangerous force that hurts the world. So is it effectively defeated in the good ending?

The first game definitely had a more interesting story. This one basically boils down to "Miracle grow baby, penitent try to stop it". Wheras the first game had the discovery of what the high wills/ miracle actually was

I’m hoping that if we ever get a Crisanta dlc, we’ll get an explanation for what happened to Esdras from the first game because he didn’t die the last time we saw him and yet he was still found in the Land of the Penitents in the true ending.
