Hi everyone,

I hope you're having a good week so far. And welcome back to my channel.
Today video I'm going to share with you how I made a bow tie crop top from a men's shirt. I got the inspiration from Chanel collection for spring 2020. I've been seeing it quite often. And even some of you ask me to do it. Plus, it's super cute. So why not give it a try.
I made this crop top with my body measurement. But I also tried to show you how I did the measurement. So you can apply to your body size.

I hope you guys will like this DIY. Please give me the comments about your thinking for this video. And subscribe to my channel to check my other videos.

Some basic information about this DIY:
1- Sewing machine: Merrit Joyful Sewing
2- Material: Men's shirt (XL size)
3- Body size: 82-64-92

Music: Folk Bed

hello everyone, I actually made this and I just want to give some insights:
first I made a dress instead of making a top and it was quite easy, I just attached some fabric below the top.
I have measurements for the fabric sizes that I tried to see from the ruler, drawings, final photos if anyone wants them.

i didn't make the bow from the sleeves because i used a short sleeved top, and I suggest don't make the bow too big because it just doesn't look good
I thought the bigger and thicker the bow the more impressive it looks, and the more it would cover (so I can be modest) but no if its too big and bulky it really makes you look fat, it's heavy and unflattering
just follow whatever jess does in the video

the main problem I had was fitting the top to my breasts. first off, I am a sewing beginner. and as a beginner, I would heavily, heavily recommend NOT doing the shirring. oh it does look simple in the video, and shirring gives by far the best effect, but its so difficult to mess up.
first, the layers of fabric at the back made it impossible to shir. i cut out that part and replaced it with a single layer of fabric but then when i geid again, my machine couldn't do the shirring. (it just couldn't do it, tbf it was a cheapo) so I had to use another machine. i found that you run out of elastic very quickly, and it was so much of a hassle to refill the bobbin. i read that if you steam it the fabric would gather up but i could see even when sewing that no amount of steaming could make it bunch up enough.
so I had to remove the rows of shirring. I wanted it to gather, so I attempted it using elastic. I sewed 4 pieces of elastic at the back, but what I realized was the top and bottom of the fabric gathered up really badly. (like the ends would fold out awkwardly) with elastic, I still couldn't get it tight enough to wear comfortably, but still loose enough to get it on and off.
I recommend, especially if you have small boobs, just put a zipper at the back. because I made a dress, a zipper makes even more sense. measure out your bust, underbust carefully and accurately without the bulk of your clothes, leave like 4-5cm for seam allowance. do this before you make the top.... don't just wing the measurements, you'll end up with something super loose

a zipper is surprisingly simple, I used the method that sewed a zipper in a seam and then unpicked the seam and it looks so good

the essence of the top lies in the tight tube fabric but the large floppy bow. so the top has to be tight and be held up without the straps.
another thing is I made the length of the top longer, again for "modesty" but no,   it's really ugly and it doesn't taper/fit well. I ended up cutting it short again.
for the straps, making them thin looks nice.  DONT flip the straps slowly, you'll die, use the method she uses, if you don't have a safety pin, use a chopstick or a wooden skewer, pierce one end of the strap and and push it through the whole tube
also I attached the straps at the very end, which doesn't look as neat but its more flexible, get someone to help you and make sure they're symmetrical lol . it feels sad when you know they're not symmetrical every time you look at the front.
there's a lot you're gonna need to improvise depending on your shirt/fabric but I really like the idea of it
also the bow, I didn't attach it to the top, I just used safety pins for my one event, and I think it was fine. you might need to keep the bottom of the bow in place as well, maybe some fabric tape or something?

in the end I made something like a babydoll dress and it was really cute. good luck to everyone attempting this!
