PSYCHOPATHICALLY SHARP SAMURAI SWORD 'Cas Hanwei Raptor'

This is my sharpest blade yet. This isn't SLAP YO MOMMA SHARP.....this is PSYCHOPATHICALLY SHARP. I have successfully handmade a 6,000 grit grinding/polishing belt which fits the 1" x 30" harbor freight belt grinder. So far the belt has held up with no problems, smooth operation and correct polishing. My next project shall be an 8,000 grit belt. A sword this sharp is EXTREMELY dangerous...be careful while handling it or you will become a victim of AMPUTATION. This samurai sword is a "Cas Hanwei raptor" the model is the "Shobu Zukuri"

I agree, but from experience, the appleseed edge is about a thousand times tougher than the flat grind. with the appleseed edge polished to this level, it stays sharp for quite a long time, I can slice through empty containers without the base even moving, never mind things filled with water. I think its a good edge

Amazing. Beautiful blade. I would like to know what type of Niku the belt sander creates and the blade is of mono steel, a folded combination, a laminated pattern weld style and if it has been differentially hardened? Holy cow that thing is sharp.

I know that using modern technology you can make the blade really sharp, but the point I was making is that by using the belt sander CAN create microscopic fissures that cannot be seen by the naked eye. I am happy to hear your blade(s) are holding up well and have not suffered any noticeable damage. Take care and post some more videos.

it also depends on how many times the steel is folded in the forge, if it is folded at all

How did you make the 6, 000 grit belt? You mentioned in your homemade grinding belt tutorial that the fiberglass strapping tape you used on the lower grit paper didn't adhere properly to anything over 2, 500 grit.

My Harbor Freight machine has vibrations is there a way to correct this? I also have a Hanwei Raptor and would love to actually polish the whole blade.

Very nice :D Do you do this work for others ? You set a very sharp edge !!
You could make a business out of getting people that kind of edge :D

You can get 12000 grit grinding paper for the 1 x 30 harbor freight sander at ECON Abrasives.

1000-1500 can definetely remove metal, so light pressure and hold the angle correctly. You have to experiment the lower the grit, the less time it should take. you get to 5000, thats pretty good, US grits are totally different than japanese grit ratings. 4000 US is 12, 000 Japanese....you can still strop, test it before you do and after you strop it too

Mike, where did you get the 1000 - 6000 belts or did you make them? Never mind that part. Found you video. Haven't watched it yet, but did you ever get the 8000 grit belt done?  I have the HB 1x30. Also what angle are you making the primary bevel at? Though I understand you are doing a convex edge, but what's the general angle? Thanks.

I wouldnt start off with 5, 000....you should start around 1, 000-1, 500 then move up to 2500, then 5, 000 then strop it on a good leather setup. I have tested it, it slices everything like a hot knife through butter. Empty bottles, right through them and the base doesnt fall. Its psycho, and the Hanwei raptor is made for 1 thing, cutting and slicing, its a good sword

at a local jewelery supply store, he has 6, 000 and 8, 000, also known as 2 micron and 1 micron, sells sheets, which I must cut then make the belt

Cutting difficulty is not usually due to inadequate sharpness but simply pushing the two sides of the cut apart to get your sword through the middle. So although it might cut paper better it will probably not cut through thick wood much better than the original.

you can sharpen anything like this, I did the kitchen knives and they slice better than ever, it creates a wicked edge that holds up
