Agree, prices seem to have gone mad! How does this make the NightJet experience attractive! Now it’s cheaper to go via day train + hotel 😢.

Great way to get people of planes... seriously how do they expect to turn night trains into an alternative when flying and 5-star hotel would still be a cheaper option?

400Euro Plus for some journeys!!! I did my first Nightjet journey a month ago. Unless those prices come down I'll be sticking to the other providers. One of it's bonuses was it was a fair alternative to a flight and a hotel. Now it's the same price or more

Prices should be going down, not up. If governments are serious about the climate trains need to be subsidised, a flight should not be cheaper than a night train...

I think a price increase is absolutely unacceptable, especially in a time where we need to work on lowering our co2 emissions. This will only deter people of taking the cleaner option of travel.

The insane thing is that even after the price increase there is a 80% chance that you end up in a carriage that's 40 years old.

A head of the ÖBB promised a few weeks back that the prices have gone through the roof because of the many tickets sold for the Nightjet New Gen and the new NJ line between Paris and Berlin and they promised that they would 're-calibrate' the system but till this day jack shit has been done to lower the prices. Hope for the best so the NJ finally can rival with the low-cost airlines

How to kick the attractiveness of airline compagnies in one step

I think the EU needs to legislate to limit train prices and assist reduction in aeroplane usage

Goddamnit. This reminds me of my trip with NJ425 from Aachen to Vienna in a private sleeping compartment, scored about 2 months prior to departure for about 240 Euro. In comparison I scored an Eurowings from Graz to Düsseldorf for about 130 Euro, also 2 months prior to departure. I should move to daytime trains or even planes. The night trains are surely comfortable and environment friendly, yet not affordable for me...

I take it the don’t want any passengers onboard their services then!

Which just means people will not use them - they will continue to use planes which will be cheaper and quicker.Which shows that the concept behind these is not to try and help the environment but just to make a few rich people even richer. Sad to say but boycott the trains until they price their product correctly.

The prices are completely stupid and remove so many advantages of taking the night train over either a day train and a good hotel or alternately flying and a hotel which cannot be good for the environment. This policy is incredibly stupid and must be rethought immediately. Can a petition be made to the ÖBB to complain about this situation? Utter madness

The nightjet has a lot of trouble with germany. They very often get delayed more than 2 hours in germany.
And due to european rules, they have to refund you 50% of your ticket if that happens, which bery heavily cut into their margins.

A company that is not profitable eventually goes under. Airlines and hotels used dynamic pricing starting in 1986 with American Airlines. Having said that, dynamic pricing needs to be closely monitored to meet the business obectives of the company. When it was first introduced by the airlines, it was used to optimize the number of seats sold, and this led to every American airline (except one) ending up in bankruptcy. What I have understood is that ÖBB is investing heavily in new equipment and someone will have to pay for that and that always in the end the customer.

it not just the increases for demand but the base prices have gone up significantly and takes nightjet from a option to nope nope thats way more then even a biz flight and a high end hotel

dynamic prizes based on demand is some serious hypercapitalistic bullshit. Charge no more than what you need to cover the cost, everything else is evil greed

Stupid. Amtrak did the same thing here in the USA. Profitable in the short term, but passengers will eventually turn to air travel. As much as I prefer rail travel, it no longer makes financial sense.

In a Europe where there are many low cost airlines, where with 50€ you can fly everywhere in one hour and half, apply 900 € is totally insane!!!

Just booked Zurich to Zagreb for 8 March, sparscheine in a 4 pax couchette was just under €50, including a small bkfst...coffee and rools with butter and jam. I think it was a great deal. I was under the impression that most systems were already using dynamic pricing.
