Jaz is on record as saying he supports the project of building a European community. That's why he sings about Europe as a civilising force that demands respect. What this song is about is the current betrayal of that project and the need to reform it. Hence the repeated reference to 'Old Europe'. My interpretation is Jaz wants a united Europe as it was originally conceived centuries ago and not the exploitative, neoliberal regime it is currently is.

I heard Love Like Blood on ToTP recently and it whizzed me straight back to 1985. I hadn't heard about them for years and so thanks to Google it's got me fascinated by the band and Jaz. What an amazing and clever man he truely is. We need more people like him in this world.
