Chuck shows you an Electronic Tool he created for easier bed leveling on any 3D printer. The tool gives you visual (LED) feedback on when to stop adjusting the bed knob. He takes you thru the design and shows you how to use it to level your bed in this week's Filament Friday.

***** NOTE ***** There are clones of this now from GEEETECH and others. They are not the same and will not work as well. Don't fall for them. Get my original at the link below:

I've been 3D printing for about 3 weeks and I find that BL touch and CR touch are gimmicky as hell. I'm new to 3D printing so I've been trying what people suggested, some of it works some of it doesn't. I've been bed leveling using a piece of paper, it came very easy and natural to me so I don't mind it at all. I received this little device today and absolutely wow! it really worked. I was expecting this device to be... Meh but first layering was really fantastic. Best $$ I spent on 3D printing thus far. Kind of pathetic that this reads like a bot salesman LOL but then again my 3D printer is printing beautifully, question is... is yours? But honestly this thing works so well that after I was done, I felt like I was cheating and I'll leave it at that.

Great idea, this should eliminate the confusion about "how close" should the nozzle be from the bed to be right!

I never heard about this until the news on Twitter that the design was stolen by a company and sold without permission. It is an awesome idea and I hope this experience doesn’t discourage you. We need a resurgence of Yankee ingenuity!

This is absolutely essential for beginners I almost quit 3D printing this save the hobby for me bed leveling almost killed me

Just leveled my bed today with this and I'm now getting the best prints I've ever gotten (because, the bed is actually level!) Thanks!

Just had to share: I picked up one of these months ago and assembled it, but took a break from printing shortly after. I just completely reassembled the machine with a new bed and springs. Thanks to this device, I'm already up and printing on my first try! This is the new de facto standard for accurate manual levelling, thanks Chep!

I've been thinking of something along these lines for a time to be honest. With as many people that struggle with this, this is an easy easy easy solution to leveling.

Ingenious and simple! Bought one pre assembled and used it right away with very good results. Beats the old paper or feeler gauge approach hands down. Thanks for sharing and for the time you put in to develop it.

Wow! Thanks everybody. I’m told it’s already a popular kit. Really surprised by the response. It was just a fun idea I had. They’re trying to get more in stock as soon as possible. So be patient with orders.

it needs to be pointed out that unless your bed is already extremely close to level, this will not give you a level bed with one pass. the 4 corners are not independent. raising a corner of your bed drops the opposite corner, and vise versa. so if your bed is low, then you bring up one corner, the opposite corner just dropped. then when you go back up and bring up THAT corner, the corner you already levelled will drop.

you have to go around and level the bed back and forth to find the middle point, one pass will never do it whether you're using this tool or paper or a feeler guage.

great idea and video though!

This is a typical: "That's so easy and simple, why didn't I think of it before?" Thanks for sharing your idea.

I'm heading out to my local electronics store to buy the stuff and make my own.
I've been always using a paper to bed leveling, never worried about installing a probe because I'm machinist and I'm used to set tools with feeler gages, but now your idea gave me a level up bed level tool (even for a milling machine tool setter).
Thank you Mr. CHEP!

Omg 😱😱😱 😊 I was about ready to quit my friend brought this over to my house I gave it a go it's amazing by this this should come standard with all 3D printers just like they come with Allen keys and all those little tools this should be essential this thing is amazing thank you so much I almost quit

If you want to enhance the measuring tolerance, you could use something like an ATtiny in SMD package, a pressure sensitive resistor and 3-4 LEDs to create a simple pressure measuring tool. Should work in the same way, but the LEDs light up one after the other when applying pressure. This should give you a slightly higher amount of precision.

This thing is amazing. Quickest easiest most accurate bed leveling I've ever done. And I say that as someone who was very comfortable leveling with feeler gauges.

I removed the bed levelling springs and went to solid pillars which are adjustable, i set the x axis beam so it is perpendicular to the columns then used a dial gauge mounted to the hot end to level the bed and once i had all 4 corners the same i let the BL touch routine look after the rest - now i don't even bother worrying about levelling the bed . Bed levelling is old school and if you treat your printer like a CNC mill and use something like a BL touch sensor routine to allow for dips and high spots in your bed life becomes much easier .

The real question is what is the accuracy of that switch? If it's off by more than .05 it can affect the level.

Great ad for the sponsor. I question the repeatability and accuracy of the button. The button will trigger the LED before it's fully compressed. Using an shim/paper of known thickness and having the nozzle just barely scrape it would be more accurate. The marginal difference between a vary loose fit and a tight fit between the shim/paper will be more accurate than the difference in the button triggering the LED and the button being fully compressed.

After watching I thought this seems like a complicated way to do an easy task. For me working through my own workflow on bed leveling and knowing when/why to bed level was part of the skills/experience building part of the journey and after that bed leveling became relatively easy. One thing I did though was replace all of the stock bed spring with the yellow flat springs and I feel like I have less issues unless something get out of alignment or has become warped.
