SPS4 SPS5 Assembly

The Squareplug SPS4 and SPS5 stubby 1/4” plugs are a great way to save space on your pedalboard. They’re especially a great choice if you have a loop switcher on your board. They simply go where other plugs can’t because of their size. In this video, I do a simple assembly to show you how I assemble these plugs, and give you as many tips as I can to make them rock solid.

Thanks for watching!

I just bought a couple of SPS4 connectors to try out with some Canare GS-4. The braided shield is always a bit contentious, especially in such a small connector but otherwise It's a great match. I was actually able to twist the entire braid and fit it through the ground pin hole without trimming any away. This was a huge relief because there's no room in that tiny plug to deal with stray whiskers.
Also, the diameter of the cable opening in the SPS4 is juuust large enough to accommodate heat shrink over the cable if you so desire (I used some, both as strain relief and as channel identification; red = right, white = left).

Hi there! great video and tips! I am totally new in the patch assembling field and I have the nerve to build my new pedalboard on my own with more than 10 pedals on and boss es-8 loop switch in the center, so the SP400s and SPS4s/SPS5s seem the way to go. I am thinking on going with the LAVA tightrope cable (32 pF/ft) because it seems a good choice and I can actually find it here (Athens, Greece). A couple of questions: is the LAVA tightrope indeed compatible with these plus in terms of geometry/size? which one of the two (SPS4s/SPS5s) would be the right way to go for the straight ones? Thanks!

This was very informative, THANK YOU! I just bought several SPS4 and several SP400 plugs and a large amount of Best-Tronics CA-0678 cable. I will be making (about 20) patch cables. I have 2 soldering irons, a 15w & a 45w. Which do you recommend for the job? Thanks

Great video!! Do you think the cable can turn almost at a right angle after it exits the barrel? Or would that be too much strain for the screws?
