DJI Stories - Using Drones to Save Entangled Whales

Whales get entangled in fishing lines and other ocean debris, which can injure and eventually kill them. Authorized groups who free these large animals are now using drones to help.

It's good that you guys are able to uses UAVs. I flew my inspire 1 to video the first snow fall over my historic town. I was given a ticket for noise. Secondly, I was putting together a video of the many activities of this public lake (swimming, canoes, boating, and 1 fisherman). Given a warning by the sheriff's office and had to show him (without a warrant) the video and pictures I had already collected (a parent thought I was videoing his 15 yr old daughter sun bathing). Smokey Mountain National park; not even in the park, I flew to 300 ft to put together a panoramic view of the smokies. Park ranger was adamant that I was in the park boundaries (confirmed by GPS on device and smart phone that I was not) and given a ticket. I was given a ticket (largest of them combined) for recording whales. They said my "drone" (It's a uav/uas.. drones are military aircraft) were affecting the way they were migrating. Really? The pod came into the bay and me (flying from shore) were affecting the direction they choose to go? After that fine, I hung up my wings. It would cost me more in attorney fees to fight than to just pay the fines. Quick note: I called TVA to confirm it was ok for me to fly. They said as long as it was for recreational use but I was still harassed.
