Amazfit versus Garmin, are they enemies?

I take both watches for a walk to see which one used auto-tracking the best, was it Garmin or Amazfit...?

Update: days later with the Garmin Instinct 2X solar and... I was able to update this Instinct 2X to version 12.26 (09eec5) by the following steps:
2. connect the USB-C cable
3. connect your Instinct 2X
4. sign in with your Garmin account & added the new device, waited, waited, and waited some more - no updates via Garmin Express
5. waited another hour for the watch to charge
6. disconnect the watch from the USB-C cable
7. about 88 seconds later an update prompt should appear on the watch itself, what?
8. said yes to update now on the watch and it updated to 12.26 giving me software fixed, my Morning Report, and more ;)

This morning around 06:30 I took my dog for a walk and my Apple Watch detected the walking outdoors at 1KM. And then, Apple added 12 minutes to my workout from just a few steps shy of walking outside my yard. The Amazfit T-Rex 2 Ocean Blue detected walking outdoors before my Apple Watch 6. Nearly 2KM, nope, the Instinct 2X failed to auto-detect outdoor movement of 4, 000 steps using the Move IQ technology.

Also, I wonder if it automatically tracks walking? If you look on the app it gives an example of biking, running, and elliptical.

For heart rate every second go to System-Then scroll down to Data Recording. If you haven’t done this already it is on smart not every second. It’s the first thing I change when I get a Garmin. I like my 2x. I took it off the charger at 9 am yesterday after my early morning workout. By 5 pm it was still at 100.

Iv had 3 different Garmin watch problems. The first one was sticking buttons Garmin instinct 2x, the second was forerunner 255 with severe battery drain, the 3rd was another Garmin instinct 2x(whitestone) with update problems(wouldn't update). So I think I'm going to get a coros apex 2 next. I think I'm done with Garmin. Just to many problems.

Instinct 2 does not have auto start activity tracking - only the venu/vivo series have that. IQ move is purely a calendar entry (and will assist the watches to start auto tracking if they have that feature i.e. venu/vivo). You have to manually start all instinct 2 activities (its a an accuracy thing - as auto start/stop activity is not always particularly accurate). So doing a test like you did is absolutely pointless. Would suggest readings manuals.

Sold my Garmin Forerunner 255 to get the Amazfit Balance... But your videos make me wanna own a rugged watch and I ordered T-Rex 2... 😅
I think it won't disappoint me as I see it's quite competitive to the Instinct.

I think none of the Garmin recognize automatically exercises, they count your activity (you can see in Garmin Connect under daily steps as small grey colour bubbles but they do not turn into exercise activities, I wouldn't call this an failure it's more a Garmin usability thing as they deliberately designed that way
