or just use power rule.... no need to do quotient rule just make the exponent negative

or know that 1/x^3 = x^-3 then apply power rule

It's not a trick. It's just an observation. You can come up with lot of tricks like this but you have to also remember them. And that's the tricky part.

This leaves me in deep confusion. Usually a proper build up is the following:

1) Draw and order graphs of easy polynomials like f(x) = ax^2, f'(x) = 2ax, and f''(x) = 2a.
2) Determine the secant.
3) Determine the limit for the tangent.
4) Derive the the power rule of derivation.
5) Use the definition to derive the product rule.
6) Apply the power rule and product rule to derive the quotient rule.

Under what conditions can actually understand the quotient rule without understanding the product rule in the first place?!
