In my eyes (as a lineman) anything behind or in front of the line of scrimmage carrying a ball is fair game

Sliding out of the pocket without protection is how i got here

Once the quarterback is past the line of scrimmage, they should lose their protection because now they're a runner.

I'm seeing a lot of comments talking about how Brady wouldn't say this if he was still playing, but Tom Brady has been dropped on so many occasions, and every time that I've seen it he just walked it off. I don't thing I've seen Brady take a big hit, and get mad about it if it wasn't illegal so the comments saying that he wouldn't say this are just lying.

I don’t believe I’ve ever heard Tom Brady say that till after he retired. I’m a huge Kansas City fan, but I do agree with Changing the rules to allow hits on a quarterback once they cross that line of scrimmage. Even the great and powerful Patrick.

A sliding hit should only be called when the defender is 5-10 yards away but anything closer shouldn’t get any flag/penalty

The sliding rule is fine. Referees just need to be able to apply judgment and context if the quarterback slides too late then clearly the defender didn't have time to adjust. It's not that complicated.

Totally agree once a quarterback leaves the pocket they are running backs

YES YES YES. Same with goalies in hockey

What ....there are rules and quarterbacks they are already more protected than anybody else.

It's something Brady would actually say, and not just a fan of football. He bought the Raiders not only because they're in Las Vegas, but also because they're in the AFC West & happen to be the rivals of the Chiefs, the opposite of Mahomes. Brady doesn't want his records to be broken.

BTW, running backs can slide too. Everyone has the same protection.

I’m a chiefs fan and I agree, I don’t like when mahomes does it or any other quarterback but I can’t blame them for taking advantage of it, it’s like when an offensive player jumps into a defender to draw a foul in the nba, it’s annoying but it’s on the rules allowing that not the players trying to win

Problem with that player that slides....should be protected. RB's have done it, WR's have done it, TE's have done it too. They are all giving themselves up.

Almost all the QB rules were made because of Tom 😂..

Tom is right. If a qb starts running as a running back, his role changed and should be subject to running back rules

As a corner, the overprotection of QBs and WRs at times does get very frustrating. I think a rule that bans sliding within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage could help on the QB side, but I might just be overestimating the durability of QBs (not as an insult). If anybody is a QB, could you tell me (honestly) if that rule would be fair?
