these days it's not hard to make sure your music which you worked hard on won't get unnoticed and make a living off it. there's stuff like discogs, beatport, music labels, youtube ad money, festivals. you can't deny that uploading tracks with purposely degraded quality is a bad practice, when youtube already compresses audio to ~140kbps AAC (on 720p videos).
