A local dairy farmer, who is a family friend of ours, was harvesting corn in the field behind my house today. Here's a quick startup and walkaround of one of their hauler trucks that they left in the field to get loaded tomorrow morning. It's a 1994 Ford LTL9000 Aeromax with a 350 HP Caterpillar 3406C engine (one of the best heavy-duty diesel engines ever put in a truck). Most of the old mechanical air-to-air 3406B and 3406C engines were set at 425 HP, but not this one. The truck also has an Eaton-Fuller 9-speed transmission. The "Aeromax" trucks were just a more aerodynamic version of the LTL9000, with a sloped hood and composite headlights. This particular one is a set-back front axle (120" BBC) daycab tractor.

These old Ford Louisville trucks are getting to be less and less common, as they quit making them under the Ford name in 1998. This one is still in great working condition and it's nice to see that it's still used daily. I grew up in my uncle's 1997 Ford LT9500 Aeromax dump truck, which was similar to this truck. It was the same color, and it also had a CAT 3406 in it. That old mechanical CAT sound and turbo whistle are music to my ears!
