What you're measuring is the temperature of the 7808 voltage stabilizer, NOT the heat created by the power TX. The location of the temp sensor is way too far off from the HF power transistors, let alone the VHF power amp. By the time their heat reaches the sensor, it can be far too late. A dangerous mod indeed...
