Percussive Maintenance.  If a relay is stuck, or a terminal loose, give it a smack and it frees it up or puts it back in place.  Works for stuck servos and valves too.

Funny thing is... the hammer could actually help :) We also used to do it on some old VW LT35's. Either the starter motor got stuck and a whack with a hammer helped it, or the fuel pump didn't work properly and a good whack from a hammer and it would go again. Same trick we also used on some old Nissan forklifts, transmission sometimes could get stuck between gears and then it wouldn't start, a well placed hit from a big hammer and it was free again :)

You may laugh, but a couple years ago, I did this to my E36 that refused to crank. Hit everything with the butt of a screwdriver, and voila, damn thing chokes to life. I helped another mate with an E39 the same way - he wasn't a fan, but hey, it starts. Old BMWs, man... They're something else.
