Johnny's thoughts whirled around in circles as he stumbled up the stairs to the rooftop garden, desperate for some fresh air to help calm his tumultuous emotions.
"She has everyone convined that I'm some sort of violent monster, but I did not hit her, it's not true!"
Daylight bathed his face as he exploded through the door, but its familiar comfort did little to distract him from his dark revelry.
"I did not hit her! I did not! I did not! I did not!" he chanted his words in his head as if it were a counterspell that could undo the curse Lisa had place upon him.
He sensed movement in his peripheral vision and realized with a start that he wasn't alone. And then he quickly tried to compose himself.
"Oh, " he said nervously. "Hi Mark."
