As some Canadians delay having children, is it time to reform parental leave?

About half of Canadians under 50 say they plan to become parents some day, but of those potential parents, about 50 per cent say they've had to delay parenthood longer than they've preferred, a new survey found.

The survey showed some of the biggest causes for the delay were around cost of living, financial security concerns, the job market and childcare costs topping the list.

As Sean Previl reports, it has some questioning if improving parental leave in Canada could help ease the pressure on would-be parents.

Some of us can afford a kid but don't want to raise kids with our peers. You only get your kid for maybe 1/3 of the day when it comes to influencing them. I wouldn't condemn a child to be raised around y'all.

Doing the same thing over and over again will not fix the problem . Why can't people make the connection between more government handouts is proportional to a worsening situation . What did all the new handouts do to are quality of life here?

It's way too late but if you gave them the time and freedom to actually raise their children, rather than the "urban tribal" savage lifestyles they fall into for survival, maybe your economy wouldn't be so predatory?
