Beware! The 'Proxy' Pokémon Charizard Card! Fake Pokémon Cards on Ebay

Hey Everyone - I just wanted to do this quick public service announcement video. People make fake Pokémon cards, and especially the base set Charizard card. They fool me often, they are called "proxy" or "replicate" cards. Be on the lookout for them, make sure you know what you are buying.

Proxies for older rare cards are questionably scams but when playing the games proxies are nice to play with an expensive card without buying it. Usually though proxies will be a few dollars at most which is what makes these expensive ones intentionally a scam imo

I purchased one to see how it was. It looks good but when you handle it, it’s 100% noticeable. So trust me, no one will be tricked once they buy it and feel it. They are much thicker. Also, eBay has buyer protection

Most of these fake cards are not hand made. They come out of factories in China the same ones that produce the fake booster boxes. People buy them, usually off of aliexpress and then resale them on ebay. There is an entire first edition fake set you can buy on there that includes all the starters. Go there and type "1996 first edition" into the search bar. They also have fake booster boxes on there for about every set Evolutions and up.

If they’re fake it’s nigh impossible to reproduce the color perfectly or quality of the card. So the easiest ways to tell a fake is whether you can see the black lining between the white on the side of the card with a magnifying glass (you can actually see it with the naked eye slightly) and then whether the light blue coloring on the right side of the red part of the poke ball on the back has dark patches or not. A real card has the dark patches. Fakes even good ones will have that spot solely light blue almost white washed. Color is virtually impossible to reproduce perfectly.

So there are tests like that. You can even use the flash light on your phone to tell the difference because fake cards again lack that black inner layer because they’re cheaply made. And that means they don’t block light that well whereas real cards won’t show any illumination from your phones light until you get it right up close and even then only small dots rather than the whole card being illuminated

Saw some people bidding £80 on a evolutions booster box that said replica in the title and found them selling for £13 on alibaba. So sad that its probably some parents buying it as a gift for there son and there getting scammed

I'm seeing these in PSA cases, they do say proxy, and selling for $10k, I had to see how PSA would grade a proxy, this a good explanation, but it certainly would make me question the authenticity of a card now even if in a case, I need to be able to tell the authenticity of case too which makes sense.
