As with most comic book characters, there are often re-imaginations and different versions to a character's past. We have chosen primarily to follow the storyline which unfolded in 1976's Nova #1 and was expanded upon in 1993's New Warriors #42 and 2013's Nova Vol. 5 # 1-3.

When Marvel decides to introduce Nova in the MCU I hope they go with Richard Ryder. He is by far the coolest and best person to carry the mantle of Nova. I also can’t wait to see how the Nova-Force compares to the cosmic powers of Captain Marvel.

So lemme get this straight, he's someone who gets powers from a dying alien, of whom is part of an intergalactic police force, known as the Nova CORPS. Who's powers are flight, energy blasts, and a ton of stuff. Who's powers come from some piece of clothing they wear... Yeah GL and Nova are nothing alike.

I also love how The Nova-Corp is extremely similar to The Green Lantern Corp. Yes Marvel took several liberties when creating Nova and the Nova Corp by essentially ripping off The Green Lanterns but personally I don’t care. After all Marvel needs their own version of an Intergalactic Peace-Keeping Police Force. I’m so hyped to see Nova and The Nova Corp in The MCU. I want to know if they will introduce them in the next Guardians of the Galaxy or in Captain Marvel 2.

Laughing at everyone crying about Nova being a Green Lantern ripoff. Maybe you should look at both sides and see that there are ripoffs from both companies.

The Annihilation comic with Nova, Drax and Silver Surfer is still one of my favourites. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes that sort of stuff

I never noticed how close this was to Green Lantern's origin. They "borrowed"from each other quite often back then.

Hal Jordan and Rick Rider have almost the same origin, in the 90's I underestimated Nova because I though of him as the poor man's Green Lantern but a friend got me into it, he and GL have great books and very different original adventures, I became an instant fan since then this goes to show that we don't judge a book by it's cover.

Nova may be a Rip off of Green Lantern but he's certainly better then him I mean seriously Marvel has a Habit of doing DC characters better then DC (I think it's because Marvel doesn't make them overpowered)

The alien who's been defeated and is about to die: "The alien told to Rich that he was passing him his* invincible* nova powers...". Rich: wonders what invincible means in the Alien's planet.

This was Awesome. I'd love to see Comic Book Origines do either Rom Spaceknight, with it returning this year in IDW's lineup. Or even the Human Fly who had appeared on Tom Snyder's and other talk shows during the late 70s early 80s.

Why are you confusing the way sam alexander's powers work with richard riders? Richard rider, like the original nova corps, didn't need their uniforms to use the Nova force, it was part of them. Sam Alexander has no power unless he wears the helmet.

One of the more underrated superheroes in Marvel comics! I read his comic series that came out before 2013. I have to say he is one of my favorite heroes of all time.
