I worked the FedEx cup championship one year in ATL. While walking over towards the practice range one morning, I heard a sound I never heard before. Rory, Adam, Finau, etc.were all practicing. But it was Xander that had the most distinct sound with his irons. What a ball striker!

I’ve come back to this video many times and I’m now starting to realize a lot of the motion comes from the grip. I think it gets thrown into the “bowed wrist” category by many, but really it’s just a weakish grip and he really leads with the back of his left hand. Then just push the square club face through with the right

The secret sauce to this transition which results in shallowing of club, staying in posture and nice open hips: watch the pressure going into the left heel BEFORE the club stalls at the top at 12:45.

I know some were 3/4 swings, but he doesn't seem to hinge the wrist like most.

Most early extenders throw their hands away from the body - watch how his hands return at impact where the start at address - that's a power source as well as lag creator.
