I did a study abroad in India. I purchased a sari and later learned it was a wedding sari. I was so embarrassed but the Indian aunties thought it was so fun. They dressed me up like a bride and we all had the best time. It’s one of my favorite memories of my travels.

As an Indian, even if you were not a Hindu, you still wont be a racist for wearing a saree, infact its not even cultural appropriation. As a Pakistani, I don’t see anything wrong with this. Wearing clothes from other cultures isn’t cultural appropriation. Cultural appropriation happens when you take something from other cultures and think you’ve created some new thing or trend. Or treating it like a costume. i’m a trans indian man and honestly it brings me joy to see other people finding happiness in my culture and appreciating it. it’s not racist to be part of a religion that your race typically isn’t a part of, but it is racist to say that only brown/indian people can be hindus. people really need to educate themselves sometimes 💀
