60HE + Tape Mod: How does it sound?

Tape modding is in our opinion is the easiest and most rewarding mod you can do. Overall the tape mod makes your keyboard more poppy, but sometimes the results are neglectable. That's why we will be testing the masking tape mod in this video.

Keep in mind to use tape that doesn't have a strong stick, like painters tape. If you decide you use duct tape you might risk damaging you board. Just be wary of this!

Crazy that wooting actually supports modding and messing with their boards. Really cool stuff

Mine’s arriving on Monday. I’ll keep it stock sounds great to my ears right out of the box.

Literally couldn't hear a difference. Even between the lubed vs unlubed. The optical switches are factory lubed really well, and the stabilizers maybe even a bit too much for me case. Perfect keyboard out of the box imo.

I think the tape definitely cuts out the higher frequency sounds from the Lekker switch. You hear more of the pop from the upstroke, overall sounds really good, I know it can be difficult to make the Lekker switches sound as nice as some of the other traditional enthusiast switches but considering how simple this mod is it sounds fantastic.

On older mechanical keyboards there was a mod using small sealing ring/gasket under each key (you might want to test it side by side on just a single key. In theory the key does not hit the bottom directly it might be a significant sound improvement, but not sure if it will work with the key design of wooting keyboards, and might reduce the maximum keypress value from 100% to probably 70%.

Adding more foam is also very easy both mods helped my stock xtrfy k5 sound so much better feels like a brand new board, lmao

When you say 3 layers of tape is it how you did it at the beginning or putting those 3 another 2 times?

I'd like to get one of those wooting keyboards but BRO they are sooo expensive here in brazil :(
I wish I could live in a better country, but it could have been worst.

when i tried the tape mod i could not screw the small ass screws back in so I just had to ditxh it. is it a must to screw in the PCB to the case?

I’m thinking of buying this keyboard and installing o-rings to dampen the sound. Is that possible with the switches on this keyboard? 🙂

Is the tape safe for the PCB? I heard glue can corrode, short the PCB or pull components off when you try to remove it after a long time. And it can catch on fire.
