Hi friends. Today I'm talking about my favorite anime, and why the color green is seldom used in its character designs.

*Notes* : I think pink is a beautiful color on the main Cures, just not on the mid season ones lol. About *Cure Milky* : She is green to me, but I meant that in some scenes she looks too blue. And I know many mentioned that Cure Sunny is the only orange, but I believe orange is not in dire need of representation because many yellow Cures have orange hair/look orange already

The creators probably took “green isn’t a creative color” way to seriously

So don’t kill me, but in defense of the creators of the Precure franchise, as someone who draws and creates lots of characters, it is rather hard to work with green as a color due to the fact that many shades aren’t the most appealing.

I think this has more to do with cultural stuff from Japan. If you watch lots of magical girl animes you will realize there's very little green themed girls! In Doremi, in Madoka Magica, there's none. One of the few exceptions is Sailor Jupiter.

I think this has to do with the fact that until extremely recently, green and blue were seen as the same color in Japan. What's more, the word for green, "midori" is still considered by many people as a shade of blue. So for them, it's not that there are not green characters, it's just that they would be as redundant as if we made a cyan and a navy blue character.

I’m tired of seeing the leaders pink

And can we Please have more natural haired cures like Black and White?

I would be up for more green cures~

Cure Milky to me is a green cure already though (and the precure mobile game also considers her as a green precure)

Re: Cure Milky, that's a color that western audiences would definitely register as teal/blue, but for Japan, that color is often considered green. For instance, Hatsune Miku is often identified as "the green Vocaloid" and the "green" lights in Japan are also this bluish color. The root of this is that the four oldest words for colors in the Japanese language are red, black, white, and blue- and the word for blue also included the color we perceive as green. There are obviously a full spectrum of color words in Japanese today, but sometimes "ao, " blue, is even still applied to things that a westerner would clearly consider green, like the green spring onion, aonegi (lol, Miku's famous prop is even a leek, which is similar to a green onion).

So from the standpoint of the designers, I'd say Milky is probably supposed to take the green slot. Still, it'd be cool if there were more pure green Precures, for sure.

"green isn't a girl's colour"

pisses me off so much, and so not true. I loved Cure Mint when I watched it as a little girl in Japan, but she was never my favourite Cure because I liked Cure Aqua's design soooo much better as well as her personality, even though Cure Mint was still my second... (so I coloured Aqua in green in my picture book instead!)

But it's largely due to today's effectiveness of marketing, I think. The way people market toys to kids nowadays has really locked in place the "girl's" colours and the "boy's" colours as pinks, purples, pastels verses dark blues, reds, greens. All this was give me an aversion to the colour pink for years (I don't mind it so much, but I used to hate having anything pink), and I feel like it causes boys and men to edge away from to dislike pink for the sole reason that its a "girly colour", when colour is objectively neither girly or boyish!
And whenever we'd get matching things, my sisters who'd "taken" blue, then pink/purple as their colours would have their colour and I'd have whatever was the third colour in that particular set, grey/black/white, yellow (I usually settled for yellow), orange, red, and hardly ever green! And on that rare occasion when it's this sickly bright fluoro green or other, and not a colour that I like! (I know this makes me sound childish, what I'm saying, but I'll remind you, I was a child then.)
Finding an alright green colour takes a 34 set of pencils in the form of turquoise, and my favourite, a 128 pack at least unless I'm really, really lucky. My favourite green is either a dark, saturated, foresty green, or a muted grey-green, then a blue-ish green turquoise, and though the turquoise is less rare, I've never met anyone whose favourite is close to mine, let alone many who chose green!

...okay I ranted a little. Okay.

I love green so much. Especially the shade they used for Cure Mint. I'm still hoping that they give real green cures another chance.

From an artistic standpoint, green is typically seen as a more masculine or gender neutral color, as opposed to pink which is blazingly feminine. And it's just not something easily marketable to the target audience.
And as you said, the strictly green Cures we did get had rather.... "Creative" hairstyles that probably did not work well in the long run.
So here's hoping that we get a good green Cure next year

I got so hyped when there was a leak for Cure Earth. I thought we were finally going to get another green cure. It's a shame that she's purple.

I think for green they should have it be a lighter green than they usually use. Like celebi/chikorita green instead of the emerald or harsh lime.

Green isn't ugly, but just look at the perfection that is Lala. A brighter seafoam or mint could really make a softer and cuter green imho.

In italian Cure Milky's color is called "Verde Acqua" which means "Water Green" so it is just in the mid between green and light-blue.

That's so funny, never noticed that..
Doremi also never had a green character, I think. But many older magical girl Anime like Mermaid Melody, Wedding Peach etc. had green characters and they were quite popular I believe. Especially like you mentioned with Sailor Moon, Neptune was many people's favourite (including mine) and there's also Sailor Pluto. Also Green in character designs can be done right, characters like Ranka Lee (Macross) or Gumi (Vocaloid) are extremely popular, aren't they?

Edit: Oh and btw I forgot to mention things like Powerpuff Girls, not actually Japanese, but Buttercup was super badass and popular!

I have a good idea: they could just add in a green character to a new show and give her more pleasing hair and a likeable personality.

i think toei isn't using green because they said they study the most popular colors among girls in the year, so they use those colors for the cures, that's why colors may repeat, green isn't really popular among girls, sure, there are girls who like it, and it's totally fine!but stadistics in japan said otherwise.
