Stains/dyes used in microbiology are broadly classified in to two categories;
Basic stains/dyes and Acidic stains/dyes.
Basic stains are positively charge whereas as Acidic stains are negatively charged.
Bacteria are 80% made of water. To observe bacteria , we color bacteria with chemicals , called as stains/dyes .
So, we can see bacteria , their structure and morphology after staining.
