Johnny cash did it justice 😂. Mr Low & Somber really knows how to put a fun spin on tragic accidents. Rest in peace to the man in black.

"he was goin down the grade, makin 90 miles an hour, when a whistle broke in through a scream, he was found in the wreck, with his hand on the throttle, scalded to death by the steam"

This event made for one of the best Johnny Cash songs ever! Helping making this wreck more recognized! Great video! 👍

I love how you can hear. Arthur Morgan in the background singing old 97. I love it.😊

Railroading in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was extremely dangerous. Many railroads averaged over one death per railroad per week. Improved brake systems, knuckle couplers, and better signalling gradually reduced the carnage to the point where railroads started being concerned about safety.

One of the most haunting things I've ever heard, was walking through an abandoned railroad tunnel with my grandpa as a kid and he starts whistling and singing this song. Talk about ghost stories!

Fun fact I think there was a thomas and friends story about an engine named Arthur who was always on time to but on one day he crashed due to him being late and wanted to make up for lost time and died with the passengers I think

Old 97 got wrecked all because of pressure to always be on time. May Brodie Rest In Peace

I suggest you read the accounts of mail train 97 on Sunday, Sept. 27. 1903. They are available at the Danville Historical Society and in the Danville Bee. Please check the story line you provided with the facts. I am a direct descendent of people in very close proximity of the accident that heard the train approaching the trestle and heard of the events directly from more than one of them.
