1978 Datsun 280Z - Build Of The Week - Gas Monkey Garage

It’s always good day when a vintage JDM car stops by Gas Monkey Garage, and this '78 Datsun 280Z owned by Mark F. Lasch is no exception. Known as "The Lazarus" this 280Z was a barn find found and built by Mark. Check it out as he takes “Fast N' Loud’s” Chad Isbell through his ride.

Bought one new when stationed in Italy from an ad in Playboy Magazine from Nemet Auto in Jamaica Queens in NYC. Flew into JFK late November 1978, picked up the 1978 280Z, a forrest green w tan leather interior. Took off across the Verrazano bridge and drove it to my next base in Kansas Really loved that car.

My mom bought me a 1978 280Z 2+2 my senior year in High School I loved that car thats why im rebuilding one now

My childhood best friend, his mother had a 78 in maroon. It was a very cool car back when we were 8 and 9 year olds. She used to carve corners on a local nearby twisty road. Nice memories.

Z done right. The good Datsunness was left intact but enhanced in every way. Nice to see that, everyone seems to LS everything including Richard and crew. Imagination and individuality are cool.

Good on owner Mark for not chopping the body up with flares, spoilers and mirrors. Just a light refresh in looks, wheels and bumpers mainly. I (still) love that color too so I had to check this out twice.

Beautiful car.  Al last, a beautifully restored Z without the usual, cheap and dumb fender FLARES !! Hooray !!
Too bad we couldn't see more of the interior. Must be as nicely done as the exterior. Kudos, young man !

Love the clean look. People always go over the top with fenders and huge wheels and slammed suspensions. Ruins the original lines of the car IMO. Beautiful color.
