I absolutely adore alok. I understand why people are threatened by non binary people because they feel it threatens their definitions of themselves and the foundations on which they’ve built their lives, decisions, and relationships. It makes them question all of that. It makes them think “if there are other options, why did I go down this path? Hmm maybe I didn’t really choose. Maybe I allowed the fear of ridicule and being ostracized guide my choices all of this time “. And it’s really jarring to realize we’re not as strong and independent and self determining as we thought. We’re very much influenced by conditioning of our parents and peers and society at large 😅

I believe this is the writer Alok Vaid-Menon. He is the author of the book Beyond the Gender Binary, and "specifically why we need to move beyond it. The gender binary is a cultural belief that there are only two distinct and opposite genders: man and woman. This belief is held up by a system of power that exists to create conflict and division, not to celebrate creativity and diversity. We deserve more options. The false choice of boy or girl, man or woman, male or female, is not natural- its political. The real crisis is not that gender non-conforming people exist, it's that we have been taught to only believe in two genders in the first place." -Page 5 of his book.

I believe it is same as being tall or short, black- brown- yellow or white, being thin or fat, having a short nose to a flat nose or whatever. WE ALL ARE UNIQUE, the way God made/sent us. We all have the right to exist, equally. We don't need to oblige anyone by believing their beliefs and faking our own life! Period. Thanks for this video.

Alok wtf is wrong with you... you are confusing entirely different concepts. “woman” & “man” are not types of gender or identities but references for particular types of human beings: male persons and female persons. In fact, if man & woman are gender identities than hen & rooster would be too. Gender refers to the social constructs of masculinity and femininity which are entirely products of culture and do not come from within.

What Alok & co. refer to as “gender” is not gender at all but they are describing personality traits..which again is not gender.
