AcuRite Rain Gauge Calibration

A better way to calibrate the AcuRite rain gauge. The user manual suggests poking a hole in a paper cup of 8oz water. That should drip slowly (and constantly) into the gauge and yield 1.68" measured. This approach allows you for much longer calibrations (eliminating experimental error). Each ounce of water you drip in the calibration is equivalent to 1.68/8 == 0.21" measured. So if you drip 20oz, your gauge should show 4.2" rain.

Interesting approach. I'm buying this model and I think I'll use your technique, although I'll use a 500-gram capacity digital scale to measure the water.
1 ml = 1gram
16 fl. oz = 454.61 grams

EDIT: Received my unit. Checked for accuracy using my variation of your technique and determined no calibration was necessary. I calculated only 0.7% off of perfect and I doubt I could turn the calibration screws precisely enough to improve on that! Besides, there are a number of factors of measurement which could easily add up to that much deviation. I'm going to mount it right next to my CoCoRAHS approved gauge next and wait for rain to make that comparison.

I was disappointed to observe the display updates like clockwork every minute, regardless of bucket tips. I'd have preferred an update PER tip. But I reckon their chosen method conserves battery cell charge.

From a distance of 40-50 feet, and obstructed by an exterior brick wall and several interior walls it is showing strong signal strength. Very good. Now, I need some rain.

I have model 01024m and I screwd up unboxing the unit I saw the 2 screws and the one looked loose so I tightened it enviously not knowing it was an adjustment how do I fix this
