Of course this is about oil, it's the whole reason why they sanctioned Venezuela to death! Venezuela didn't hand over their oil to the US after the US demanded it and just like any big baby the US did everything in their power to make their lives a living hell just to get back at them, or cripple them so much that they would concede. Not to say that things weren't already shitty with Chavez, just saying America wanted Venezuela to suffer as much as they could make them because they wanted the oil and couldn't have it.
