Two-time Hall of Fame basketball coach Doug Schakel, skill development coach for the 2015 NJCAA Div. II National Champions, gives you the blueprint that allowed his high school and college teams to win 80% of all their close games over a 35 year span and produce 16 conference championships (5 in high school and 11 titles in college)
"I often heard coaches make this kind of comment: 'Our won-loss record was 11-12 and our season could have been so much better if we hadn't lost 5 games by a total of 13 points.'
I will share with you how to keep that from happening to your team. Imagine, if that team with an 11-12 record had, instead, won four of those five close games that they lost. Now they are 15-8.....big difference from 11-12 !!!
But there is more benefit: a team that is 15-8 now thinks they are a pretty good team and that attitude usually produces one or two more wins...now, we are looking at 16-7 or 17-6 !!!"
Follow our daily "Time and Score" plan and see what winning 80% of your close games will do for your season. Check out two great last second scoring plays at the 25:20 mark of the video.

Doug, Do you do Coaching Clinics? I am the Girls Varsity Coach at Seoul Foreign School (an international school in Seoul, Korea). I come home in Colorado over the Summer, but would love to attend a clinic that you put on. I find your videos very helpful and informative.

Best,
