Welcome to Europe’s NEWEST international train!

Today I'm travelling on the newest of international trains in Europe, as I take the Slovenske Železnice (SŽ) Stadler FLIRT from Villa Opicina to Rijeka. It's an excellent collaboration of Slovenian Railways and Croatian Railways, allowing you to travel from Italy to Croatia by train in just a few hours, a welcome addition in an area sadly known for being poorly connected.

Join me on this Slovenian Stadler train, as I check out this new service, and all the surprises on this special service!

Thanks to Slovenske Železnice, the operator of this train, for inviting me along and providing a ticket.

I was slightly wrong about the cost of a bike reservation! Whilst a journey within Slovenia or there to/from Italy costs €1.50 or €3 for an e-bike, if you travel to Croatia, this costs €5 instead.

A train company as a sponsor? Now THAT'S a feat.

Although I am not Slovenian, I must say your pronunciation sounds extremely good. A far cry from the butchering of foreign words often heard in travel videos.

In Western Europe, you might get a firm handshake from a man in a suit and a croissant on a train launch. In Slovenia, you get the full entertainment company, copious amounts of food and a babushka offering you some spirits. If that's not balkan enough, I don't know what is😂

thank you so much for showing the world this piece of world. I live in Trieste and it's a shame that Italy, Slovenia and Croatia, despite being so close, are basically not connected at all. But finally something is seemingly changing.

I love these videos so much. Aside from having a little liking to trains, the videos calm me so much for some reason. Your voice has always been so chill and relaxing to me, sometimes I just listen to the video without watching it and do gaming, and later I do the same but watch it too!

Hearing international train and then 97km 2 hours long ride is kinda funny for me because in my area just city suburban trains are 2-3 hours to the farthest points. Btw, congrats on train company sponsorship, hoping it would develop for more partnerships and exclusive content!

Wow, that was a successfull launch of this new connection! Congratulations to the Slovenian train operator and all connected areas involved. I think they did well to invite you (and undoubtedly some of your fellow itinerary reviewers) to make the train known to the rest of us, and to make everyone share in the happiness for its arrival. Something to be glad about indeed!

Oh boy, I am so jealous. These intro rides with all the free snacks and shots are the best, you're one lucky guy.

Speaking of regional trains crossing three countries, I would recommend the RE18 from Aachen via Maastricht to Liège. Though this have been delayed many times due to various reasons, like a lack of trains and staffs and even signalling systems, and FLOODING around the border crossing between the Netherlands and Belgium this time. Riding this train during normal operation could also be an adventure, mainly because of the only but critical single-track section around Eygelshoven. If you manage to pay a visit on that train I would really appreciate it.

Gotta say, that was a great review about an even better event and ride on this new train! Makes me really happy to see that public train operators put that much effort into gaining publicity :)

I love how you make a real effort to pronounce the local names correctly.

9:54 Hesitant? That "yes, please" came pretty quick 😄
