Why the opening of St. Teresa of Avila’s Coffin Tickled Me

St. Teresa of Avila is one of the church’s incorruptibles. This means that her body has been preserved, defying the laws of nature. St. Teresa is a master of the interior life and truly an incredible saint, so I appreciated thinking about the similarities and differences between our dear St. Teresa of Avila and the Pharisees and Scribes whom Jesus was pretty tough on in Matthew 23. St. Teresa of Avila was dedicated to disciplined religious practices, yet she was so full of love for God and neighbor.
