I'll say it here like I said in the video, SC State did it first, I got that film from I want to say 2022, but I love it for them!

I'm going to Answer some FAQ's Here:
Q: Why is the editing weird?
A: XOS Copyright claimed part of the video well after it was uploaded, I tried to trim it so it was still somewhat watchable but monetized, they then claimed other parts as well so now we all lose except them.
Q: If the punter leaves the pocket does he lose protection?
A: Like poking a hole in a condom he does. As soon as you show yourself to be a potential runner you lose your protected status and can be hit.
Q: Can this work in the NFL?
A: Maybe, but the line can't leave the line of scrimmage, and we tend to see less heavy overloads to one side or the other on block teams that we rely on to make this work, so I wouldn't expect it any time soon.

Loading 8 in the box to stop one single guy at all costs and still giving up 150 yards rushing and 2 TDs to that guy is crazy

In case you are wondering, in college, linemen can be downfield on a punt. In the NFL they can’t and this would be a penalty.

Run-punt option definitely sounds like a play Isaac would use 😂

The announcers did not have to do him like that with the vegemite comment 😭

American-born Aussie here. The reason Australian punters are like this is probably because they've grown up playing AFL or Rugby League/Union. In all those games kicking is done on-the-fly the vast majority of the time, sometimes running full pace. The idea of kicking from a standing start is pretty foreign to us except when kicking for touch with penalties in Rugby or after marks in AFL

that's awesome, on so many punts it really looks like the punter might have a chance at running for it if he had his head up looking for it, and this allows that to happen without needing to practice much beyond the punter's own technique and judgement (which is a lot easier than coordinating the kinds of trick plays that fake punts normally involve)

As as Aussie living in the States desperately missing home, can’t tell you how nice it was to hear Down Under at the end of the video. Love your vids ❤

Your channel has been so educational and brought some much needed attention to the kicking game. I used to consider it the most boring aspect of football, but I love your videos and insights. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for clarifying the punt-run option. I was going to say this has been a thing but you explained the difference quickly and well.

This was fascinating and it's great to see skills from Aussie rules and rugby being utilised in American football. Similar to football (soccer) most players in those sports have some proficiency kicking with both feet, although if the dominant side isn't used it generally means sacrificing distance and accuracy. Defenders at the elite level know which foot is a player's strongest because it's great strategy to force them onto the weaker side as it reduces territorial advantages and increases errors, and while they can still kick with the outside of the dominant foot like the guy in the video, that's a much more difficult skill even though it's practiced as often as kicking with both feet. Great video!

It’s pretty awesome to see the sport continue to evolve like this tbh. Like in basketball, evolution of the game basically meant everyone shooting 3s, but in football, you see truly creative changes that push the sport to its limits. Super cool stuff.

Scott Harding University of Hawaii back in 2013 was doing crazy run punt plays. Probably the best player on his team. He played P, WR, and PR. Look him up.

A 5-3 defense in modern football is nuts.

Aussie punters do this as well. Ideally they want to be able to punt/kick with both legs to make them harder to defend. With American football however, 99.99% of punters only know how to kick with one leg, so it's super rare to see something like this.

0:54 That is a king block, I've seen heaven and it's that lineman throwing that block

Thanks for the credit given to SCSU. HBCUs often miss out on credit on the innovations they add to sports.
