They did this mod by removing the catalytic converter from the main exhaust pipe and installed a new pipe so the air coming out of the exhaust is not filtered and it have some unburnt fuel, then they placed a spark plug in the exhaust connecting to it to the car battery and switch to control it and when they switch on the spark plug it ignites the unburnt fuel so it causes massive back flames.

Its a detached kit called flame thrower, its not really in the engine because you cannot hear the popin sounds it is just like opening a gas stove after the rev comon.
