Beginners guide to personal finance

A common personal finance mistake we all make is not starting to invest early, even if we can. Maybe it's because of the youthful naïveté, but early on in our careers, we think that saving small amounts doesn't matter. We don't realize that even small amounts compounded over long periods of time will grow into large sums. At a very reductive level, the secret to personal finance is simple:
1. Start early.
2. Invest regularly.
3. Stay invested for the longest time possible.
After a few decades, the value of your investments will be enough to give you a heart attack (in a good way 😀).

In this introductory video of the personal finance module, Karthik shares his own mistake early in his career and explains why understanding the effect of time on investing is the secret sauce of investing.

I've started my investment journey not too long ago at the age of 17, I'm 20 now and am a student of investment, I aspire to be far more learned about investing and finance than I am right now in the near future:)

I was curious since 13 but i didn't have a bank account that time then I learnt alot about it and saved and consciously spent on fun and adventurous experiences, though my pocket money was peanuts like barely 100 rupees for a week, then fast forward to my 18 i was very confused with bank accounts and all that got stuck with many other problems gone case, now I'm 19 and I have finally put all my efforts and was stubborn to start investing no matter what be it 500-1000 bucks i promised myself to save all of it not limiting my wants and needs as well as once in a lifetime opportunities with the handful of friends I've got (thank God I don't have any liability such as girlfriend) I've started from this January and I've invested on stocks with just a little research though I'll be improvising my portfolio slowly and smartly, Thank you for this video 🙏🏻

Here on i am 26 and have a thankful story, as my father invested in mutual funds on behalf of me instead of giving m a huge pocket money to enjoy, while he also fulfilled all my necessacity. But from past 2 years as i have become a trader and a financial advisor, it was very tough for me to save any money as no more pocket money was provided and now i had to pay atleast 50% of my sip's to which i used to get very angry and furstrated as i wanted those money to spend on unnecessary things but i had to invest those money, to which now i am thankful to my father that he played a great support to give me a kick start at my early age towards investment.

I wanted to invest in mutual funds in college days but the lack of money+ bank account has restrained me. Now I am 22 yrs old and invested in mutual funds from my first month salary.
Being a science student, I am looking forward to learning a lot through this series and improve my personal financial knowledge.

I started my financial freedom journey at the age of 19. I save my money every month and invest that amount. I am grateful to have you as a mentor sir.

I invest in debt mutual funds so that I don't sell stocks at the wrong time. After watching your video I understood that I should keep at least one mutual fund for long-term.

I started saving from 22 but lost everything in penny stock. I started saving again with mindset greed is never good for you no matter how shiny that looks. I lost initial years of compounding but better it happened early in my life I had little to loose and I learnt a big lesson.

Since I was 20 years old, I was curious to invest. But the only thing I knew was that you need to enter a stock market for investing which involves risk and even for that you needed Hell lot of knowledge. So due to this fact, I was always unable to start my first investment journey. But this year when I am 22 years old, after accumulating some knowledge about the other spheres, where we can invest other than stock market that is mutual fund, I made my first investment with an SIP of Rs.1000 a month in SBI Contra mutual fund. And I am loving the returns. It has been giving me since I started a few months back. Also looking forward to learn more from this YouTube series of Zerodha varsity.
