I have been a hardcore hammock camper for, well, since it became popular in the early 90s. As much as I love it, a tent is simply more versatile. There are places where you simply cannot set up a hammock, unfortunately. I do get a better nights sleep in a hammock, BUT, since I am not carrying the weight, I have found a good combination of sleeping pad/sleeping bag. The Nemo Jazz works wonders. Its like sleeping in an actual bed. My only issue is, being a disabled vet-actually getting up from the ground, lol. Damned knees!!!

Hey Adam. Don't know if you will see this. But just wanted to say thank you. Thanks to your videos. I wound up buying my first motorcycle last weekend. I've always been to poor to get one. When I got to the point that I could afford one. People was telling me that was to old to learn to ride. That is was a bad idea. But thanks to you and two other channels. I made the decision to get one and learn how to ride. I've always wanted to do this. But been to poor or people just talked me out of it. But you Youtubers helped me regain my enthusiasm for learning how to ride. I'm hoping to see you on the rode one day.

While I agree with most of those things not all. I was riding motorcycle first than years later started backpacking, eventually they merged. Anyway me and a buddy went to mount Rogers in Virginia. Which is the highest peak in the state, and camped up there. Well long story short, the wind was so bad that it blew my tent on to of me. If I looked down I couldnt see past my stomach because the tent was laying on me. Now granted the wind was getting up to 55+mph, it was one hell of an experience. Not only was the wind blowing as hard as a hurricane literally, if poured rain, then snowed, then everything snowed. A corner of My rain fly blew off once, blowing in rain. My buddy on the other hand was in a hammock. He had different problems. While the wind was not tht big of an issue for him, because there was nothing to blow over. He was exposed to snow and freezing rain gusting around. Getting on his face and down sleeping gear which eventually froze and stuck to his hammock and made some holes that exposed some of the down. I still prefer a tent, and he now has a tent and prefers it as well. A tent is like a room, put your shit in there, change in there, privacy. A hammock, not so much of that. Also for me and him as well, the sleeping in a tent is far better. I can lay flat on my pad and stretch out to my heart's content. Also I roll around, sleep on my side, stomach, and when u have put in 20 miles on the trial, or hundreds on miles on your bike. Comfortable should not be over look, because when u push your body that hard u need to recover as much as possible. I take a hammock on day trips, maybe hang it up some where with a nice view and read or relax. Just hang out. I'm sure some prefer a hammock, but to me a tent is the only way to go for camping

Have traveled over 250, 000 miles on three different Bikes I used a Tent, only drawback was Rain runing under Tent, rainy day look for motel. Watchout for Bears if camping on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Skyline Drive, Tenn. Paw Prints on my Bike Seat in the morning.

I use a ultralight 2 man tent. My air pad has a built in footpump, both of which are fairly small and light. I also have a portable chair that packs pretty small. I don't pack food other than possibly an energy bar and bottle of water. If you're riding a $20k bike you can afford some good quality camping gear. Me? My bike is 22yrs old but I'll go anywhere on it tomorrow if I need to.
Really dig that magical bag bit, Scooter was a great touch.

Adam, I was laughing at the bottomless saddle bag. Scooter was a nice surprise. Thanks for the review.

I got motocamping a lot and I bring my hammock every time. I’m on the east coast though so plenty of trees around. You just can’t beat how small the set up is to pack. Love the vid. I will definitely wait to see what your load out will be for your upcoming trip. Safe travels!

Having both is certainly the best scenario. There is a tremendous amount of compact gear available now a days. Sure your gonna have a blast. Just hope we get past all this pandemic crap ASAP. Great comparison video. Thanks

Recently went down the hammocking rabbit hole, the following is just for options. For privacy in a hammock you could look into a tarp. I found one with the doors kit, that is far more complete than the fly. For setup in the wind look into snake skins, and double ended storage bag. Then you can hook one end and be ready for the other before you create a sail.

My Redverz Atacama for a large tent has me spoiled. Plenty of room for the "Lone Wolf" that I am, set up not bad in windy conditions set-up by design. Use inflatable queen bed with battery inflation, Coleman fuel stove it beats the motel/hotels. I do Hotel/Motel when I just don't feel like doing pitching of the tent. Being I pull a trailer it's all good! Ride Safe and enjoy the ride!

What about out east. I use to live in Alabama and had a wild bore come up to my tent and I have an aunt that has cabins it Tennessee with black bears. If you are sleeping in a hammock how do you protect yourself. I know some of you are thinking gun but I sleep pretty hard. That bore was at the front of my tent before I woke up and knew what was going on.

Hammock rider here. GA area few tricks I learned.
1.) Get a 2 Person Hammock, sizes are similar when rolled up, and the extra room is nice to have -
2.) This also helps me spin my luggage up in the hammock and wrap a bike lock cored around it if I leave for a few hours.
3.) For cold weather go with Quilt under the hammock rather than a pad. Warmer and easier to pack with multiple uses.
4.) Hang the hammock high, should be a little jump to get in. This makes standing under the A-tarp possible and just moving around the campsite easier, changing, etc.
5.) If possible park the bike close to that overhanging A-tarp. It helps with wind and privacy.

Understandable your right a lot of this has to do with the elements your in but I have really enjoyed stitching to a hammock. I lugged a tent around for years and I see it more as a bed/storage. Where a hammock doubles as a shelf, a seat and its overhang a shelter. Weakness... you need trees or it's a tarp on the side of a bike.

Both are good. Better to have both. Situations can change and so do places. Awesome video!!
